What a glorious week it's been and the perfect time for a little day trip to Abergavenny, a lovely little market town in Monmouthshire, which we try to visit when we can but over the past few months have not found the time, so we thought what better than a Fathers Day adventure.

walking up

So we packed up a picnic full of delights and headed over the heads of The Valleys to Abergavenny around an hour away. We parked near the Castle Meadows and walked down along the river before heading up towards to the castle ruins to have a picnic.

Abergavenny Castle grounds are a great place to explore with lots of castle ruins as well as the Hunting Lodge Keep housing the small but perfectly formed Abergavenny Museum. Below the museum is a lovely willow sculpture garden which Mr A loved running around in his new Clarks sandals who are currently trying to encourage people to free their feet, something we love to do. I am also in love with my Clarks originals sandals which are going to see a lot of use this summer as they are so comfortable (like walking on air) as well as being stylish, win win I say.

It was such a lovely day full of simple pleasures, exploring and fun. We ended it with some lovely Joes Ice-cream, running around the willow garden and making an flower crown

If you would like to join in with the #FreeYourFeet Clarks campaign with a chance of winning some lovely spa vouchers and shoes than simply upload an image to instagram of your feet running free using the hashtag.  We need little excuse to enjoy the outdoors but this gives you even more of an incentive.

We cannot wait to return to Abergavenny later in the year, possibly to the food festival or their outdoor theatre shows, we love this place so much it has even go onto our possible places to buy our next house - so watch this space.
