Afternoon Tea at The Park House Cardiff

Park House Cardiff

We were recently asked to review somewhere new in Cardiff and had heard great things about The Park House - a beautiful Victorian building overlooking the museum which used to be a members only establishment but has opened up to the public in the past few years. I had been to the basement cocktail bar - The Vanilla Rooms before but neither of us had ate at The Park House so we decided to try out their Afternoon tea as a relaxing treat during what is turning out to be a very very manic time of the year.

The building is exquisite and luxurious and as soon as the large wooden doors opened and we were greeted and coats taken we knew we would be in for a treat. Our table was ready and waiting for us. With high ceilings and beautiful ornate windows looking out across winter wonderland it was like an oasis in the city being somewhere so peaceful.

We had a few different drink options including various loose leaf teas and artisan coffees as well as upgrading to a bubbly afternoon tea with either Prosecco or Champagne and since we have so few days just with the two of us John opened for a glass of bubbly, being pregnant however I decided to go with some fresh peppermint tea which was wonderfully refreshing and came in a beautiful vintage style teapot. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable but there was no rushing and everything was lovely and relaxing.

After settling in and enjoying our drinks we where served the first part of the Afternoon tea - four finger sandwiches on lovely Welsh Slate. The veggie options where Beetroot hummus and carrot and Welsh cheese and chutney while the meat version include Smoked salmon and cream cheese as well as Turkey and cranberry sauce.

After our finger sandwiches we were each given a small two tier platter of delectable treats. John opted for a Gluten free version which was very impressive and mine was the standard selection and included the most divine Scone and Eclair as well as a White truffle, Macaroon, mini mince pie, fruit cake and chocolate shortbread while Johns had a similar selection except with a Chocolate cream flute, White chocolate rice cake stack, Christmas cake, fudge and a small pot of caviar.

Everything was beautifully made and The Park House is very much about less is more although perhaps don't come here very hungry as all of the creations are very delicate and light and you don't get as much as what I have experienced at other Afternoon teas but in terms of quality this is the best I have experienced so far and as they say quality over quantity. We would love to return and try the Sunday lunch or Al a carte menu.

Afternoon Tea starts at £24 per person.

Thanks to The Millennium Hotels and The Park House for having us.
