Rediscovering Hilton and giveaway

02/04/2013

Last Monday John and I finally had our first night away from little Mr A as we ventured across the boarder into England and the beautiful city of Bath. We had been kindly asked if we would review the Hilton in Bath and were very excited by the prospect as it's a city we love but don't get much time to visit. After leaving Mr A with lots of toys and big smiles at the prospect of staying with the grandparents we made our way over the Severn Bridge.

After parking the car just under the hotel (very convenient), we checked in, I have to say the during our stay the staff were very friendly, professional and informative. Our room was on the 4th floor and had a great view of the city and canal below. What we loved most was the little touches, there was a big chocolate chip cookie with strawberries and olives waiting for us, as well as a thank-you note and bottles of still and sparkling water. Our room was spotless and well designed with everything you need, we loved the chic bathroom and basin, as well as the super soft towels and toiletries left out for us.

After getting settled in, we decided to see what Bath had to offer on a Monday night, we were not looking to party but simply to have some good food, drinks and possibly a cocktail or two. John wore his Carharrt jumper and Vera shoes while I went for a more rock inspired look of a leather jacket and Nine West striped tee with skinnies. We first had a drink in the hotel bar and then just across the road was a great little pub - The Pig and Fiddle which had a great atmosphere and interior and was relaxed and busy with students, young and older people and the food looked really good so John had a Kangaroo burger and I of course went for the veggie option of a delicious Goats cheese and veggie lasagne accompanied by some local cider.

After the meal we went for walk further down into town and tried out the very laid back Belushi's, we sat in a cave like booth filled with old film and movie posters. It was really nice to not have to worry about rushing back and we made our way to a lively pub called the Huntsman were they had open mic and it was great to hear some live music. However we where still on the hunt for some cocktails and took a taxi back up the hill to Sub13, a very cool and chic basement cocktail bar, with little nooks and crannies to sit in, lit by candles and just want we needed. We both tried an amazing gin, mint and elderflower cocktail.

I can't really remember the time we got back to the Hotel but it didn't really matter as we were going to have a rare lie-in and really enjoy it. We had a little bit of room service, watched some TV on the huge plasma screen in the room and feel asleep on the very comfortable bed. In the morning couldn't wait to sample the massive breakfast selection in their beautiful dinning room.

We wanted to make the most of the day and check out the local shops - they have some amazing boutiques, designer, eco and charity shops in Bath. Although it was absolutely freezing, literally freezing (zero degrees) so after a two or three hours and a spot of peppermint tea we decided to head back to see the little man. It was a really refreshing and fun night away and all the little extras that the Hilton provide made us feel really spoilt.

  13. The only Hilton I've ever stayed in is the one at Stansted airport, so I've got plenty to choose from. I think I'd probably go for the Waldorf Hilton, London and soak up the sights of the big city.
