An Unexpected guide to Bath
Bath a historical city of culture, art, beautiful architecture and food and a city that has been well trodden by many a traveller, especially the thousands that flock to see the Roman Baths first hand every year. I have visited Bath many times in the past either for the day or a short weekend break but every single time I've visited this place has surprised me with something new. When Visit Bath and Bath University invited to come explore the Unexpected side of Bath I couldn't wait to see what they had in store. It was an action packed trip and really enjoyed experiencing the city from new perspectives and sharing what I got up to with you and hopefully inspire you to visit this unique destination over the summer. 1. Brewery Tour and Tasting at Electric Bear Located in the Bear Flat are of Bath is the Electric Bear Micro Brewery which creates both traditional and experimental small batch nanobrews. What is really cool about this place is that they have a T......

Beautiful Bathrooms Sell Homes
Now I know a lot of you have read that title, and raised your eyebrows. In all likelihood you are thinking what is she on about? How can the statement that bathrooms really help sell houses be right? It's often on of the most overlooked spaces in any home but if your serious about selling than you really can't afford to overlook any part and having a beautiful bathroom certainly helps. Recently I have been helping a friend to dress her house for sale. She has had it on the market for a while, and is desperate to sell, and her agent advised her to spend a bit of money, and stage her home properly, something which is very big in South Africa but not so much in the UK, although I think it really helps set the stage to potential buyers. He told her that the two most important rooms of the house were the kitchen, and the bathroom. We were not surprised that a nice kitchen attracts buyers to a property, but did were a little taken back that the same applied to......

Beautiful Bibico & Giveaway
If you are a regular reader of the blog you probably already know we love ethical brands, so when I stumbled across Bibico on twitter a few months ago I immediately wanted to know more about this locally designed, ethically produce, fair-trade and organic independent store based in Bath. It can be surprisingly hard to find clothes that are not only stylish but also produced in a low impact way and that benefits the people who actually produce the clothes such a the cooperative in Nepal who hand knits all of Bibico's knitwear. Most of the knitting is done at home which means they don't have to travel, reducing costs and allowing them to stay close to their families. Summer inspired outfit from Bibico - love the Breton dress for £49 What I love most is the beautiful simplicity that their collection captures with classic designs such as Breton dresses, Aran jumpers and canvas espadrilles, it reminds me of blissful days spent at the seaside or in wellies in......

Bath City Break Part 2
On our second day in Bath, during our # BeAGreatWesterner weekend adventure we decided to head out on the water and take a 25 minute boat ride along the river Avon to Bathhampton where we came across a stunning countryside pub, nestled right by the waterside and enjoyed some tapas and a cheeky cocktail in the sun. It was such a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, with Mr A running around, climbing trees and coming across a damselfly, we felt like a million miles away when in fact we were just outside the city. Bath is undoubtedly a beautiful place and offers so much for all the family, if I had my way we would live in this part of the world as it's such a visually interesting city with so much heritage and with the river Avon running through it you also feel really connect with nature. Mr A loved the boat ride and meandering down the river on a sunny afternoon really cannot be beat. Once we returned to the city centre we had a stroll around th......

Bath City Break - Part 1
If you follow us on instagram you might already know we recently jumped on board a First Great Western from Cardiff on a family city break adventure to the historical city of Bath. We love a good train trip and its easy to forget how accessible Bath and Bristol is from Cardiff and it was really refreshing not taking the car and instead enjoy watching the countryside fly by from the comfort of a table seat. We have been to Bath a few times but mainly day trips so we had a few things planned, including visiting the Roman Baths, museums and taking a boat trip on the river Avon. We arrived just after lunchtime and once we found our hotel the Premier Inn Bath City Centre which was walkable from the train station we headed out to explore, first stop however was a cup of coffee and some homemade pastries from Society Cafe, a lovely independent coffee shop and the perfect way to start our holiday. Once we had filled up we made our way over to The Roman Baths, Mr A was particular......

Happy home & win £200
So what makes your home a happy place? A long hot bath and a good book, time spent in the garden, the sound of children laughing, fresh flowers in the hallway? Well those are a few things that brings happiness into my home and making our home a happy and positive place has never been as important as since we have had children as we want them to have fond memories even if we are planning to move again. The one thing I do have love having in the home is fresh flowers, preferably wild ones we have picked up from a countryside walk and have been thinking I really need to get some better vases for them so put together a little mood board I love all these simple vases especially the painted mason jars Legal and General have also put together a little survey to basically find out what if your happiest room in the house and what gets on your nerves to get a better overall of what makes you smile when it comes to your own home. The survey should only take ......

Weekender highlights
Last weekend we jumped on a First Great Western from Cardiff and headed off to Bath for two wonderful nights - it's always lovely to get away and we do love a good staycation and Bath is the perfect city for that. I cannot wait to share all that we got up to but for now here are four taster shots as we enjoyed wonderful food by the riverside, exploring the Roman baths, finding pretty mosaic floors and those punting boats - perfection ...

The bath is back
So for the past two weeks the bathroom has been a bit of a war zone. Our bath had sprung a rather bad leak which meant water was running into our living room - not a good look. As we are planning to sell the house this year we were hoping not to replace the bath as it was very solid and when buying the property didn't appear to be an issue but things don't always turn out how you think they will. If we were going to be living here for a longtime we would of gone for a roll top bath and different tiles but when renovating a property you need to detach yourself a little an we opted for something plain and neutral. All I can say is I am very happy to have a bath and new shower back in before the baby arrives. Like I said if we were staying in this house longterm we would of gone with something a little bit different, not that we don't like ours now, it's a cute little room in the eaves which we have made a fair amount of changes too with new floor and wall ......
