Night out or night in?

Me on my way to a date night at the Theatre last year

We have been trying to save money for the last one year to move onto another slightly larger house project. Hence, our night outs have swapped to night ins. Turns out it is not only easy on my pockets, but also pretty fun. In fact Saturdays night ins can be pretty entertaining with some nice food, snacks, maybe a glass of wine (or two) and one or two movies and what more could you ask for? It also means some quality time spent together as a couple, which can be pretty rare when you have two kids.

I love indy films as well as dry comedies while John likes more of the action style films or anything from the 80's (I know, don't ask). We try to be pretty health conscious and try not to binge on junk for but instead have a good bottle of something and maybe a few light dips and a small bar of quality dark chocolate, I mean it is Saturday night after all.

Enjoying some homemade Mexican food is much cheaper than heading out

If Mr A goes down fairly early I have an hour free I my even indulge in a nice warm bath and take a moment to paint my nails before settling down to watch a cosy movie, I think making time for yourself every now and then is emotionally important and while I am doing this John likes to take an hour to read a book, something which is a real luxury of late.

Occasionally we actually prefer to more quiet evening all together when we just spend some time talking and going over the week, perhaps listening to some records and sharing stories or inspirations we have come across recently. It's the perfect low-cost day and a simple way to spend some quality time together, listening to each other and making sure we are on the same page.

Us on a rare night out

Other options for a fun night in would be to invite some friends over and play a game of monopoly - I know it's pretty old school but still very fun. I

Night ins are just perfect for us, especially since we now have two young children, we don't feel like we are missing out or sacrificing and we still make sure that we do have "date nights" out every now and then but also making those evenings at home special with some nice food, a movie and enjoying each others company.

  1. Due to the fact that I was born a 50 year old woman, I am a big fan of nights in over nights out! Makes total sense to me and I agree on your food choices!!

  4. I'm with Lia on this one, I too was born middle aged, so I love a good night in. Also I can totally recommend Cranium for a game to play with friends, it can be pretty hilarious even without a glass of wine.

  6. I love going out but it is indeed a rare occasion these days, nights in are equally as valued as long as the kiddo stays asleep! x

  7. We've been making more of an effort to have a proper date night in at the weekends, and watching a movie. It's something to look forward to and I think really makes a difference!
