Park Plaza - A Sunday Spa break

relaxation

Everyone deserves a bit of down time, a moment of relaxation and calm, especially in a world that seems to be increasingly rushed, hectic and busy. Both John and I have had very little time together since Baby G arrived on the scene 10 weeks ago and of course we wouldn't want it any other way and if anything this makes any time we do have together even more special. We have been thinking about  doing a spa day for a while so we were very excited to be asked to come and review Park Plaza's Sunday Spa break deal which is perfect for couples or friends looking to have a bit of "me-time"

We have been to both Laguna Bar for drinks before as well as the Kuku Club, both which we have always impressed us and left us wanting for more so it was fantastic to finally see what else this four start hotel in the heart of Cardiff city centre has to offer. The Sunday Spa package is really good value for money at £99 including an overnight stay with full Welsh breakfast, a three course meal and a 55 minute Laguna signature full body massage with full use of the leisure facilities.

We started out our lazy Sunday afternoon with our spa treatment, which was incredible and exactly what we both needed. I was little apprehensive initially as this was the first time ever I was leaving the baby in the trusting hands of my mother but I managed to switch off and felt very relaxed and I can say we both honestly felt calm and rejuvenated after our massage.

After a quick dip in the hot tub we decided to check into our room which was located on the third floor and was wonderfully large and spacious and filled with natural light from the large windows overlooking the river. As with the rest of the hotel the rooms are stylish and well designed with king sized beds and 100% Egyptian cotton sheets as well as fast free wifi in all rooms which is always a bonus. As I was going to pick up BabyG after our meal so they had kindly set up a travel cot in the room. We then headed down to the Laguna Bar & Kitchen for a drink before our meal and as we have never ate hear before I was excited to see what they had to offer especially as they have been awarded Restaurant of the Year by the South Wales Echo.

Laguna Kitchen and Bar

From the start the staff were welcoming and knowledgable. We had some lovely fresh rustic bread to dip in olive oil and balsamic while we waited for our starters to arrive, for which I opted for the Super-Food Salad with Quinoa and baby asparagus while John had the handmade fishcakes. The salad had a wonderful zesty dressing and was just the right portion size and the perfect aperitif. For mains I had a wonderful creamy Gnocchi with rocket and John had the Roast Sirloin of Welsh beef which he described as one of the best meals he has had in years. Even though at this point we were both feeling rather full the food was so well seasons and cooked to perfection there was no way we were going to miss dessert, having not been able to enjoy things like soft cheesecake while I was pregnant that was my first choice while John had the apple crumble, needless to say nothing was left on the plate.

In the morning I struggled to want to get out of bed as it's was so soft and comfortable but after a well rested night (even the baby slept through) we headed down for breakfast and once again the staff could not have made us feel more welcome, especially of Baby G who they fussed over, especially when he offered them big smiles in return. The breakfast is really comprehensive from granola and fresh fruit to pancakes, eggs cooked anyway and the full Welsh experience with all the trimmings. We both opted for some pancaked with fresh fruit and a small bowl of porridge while John also had some poached eggs on an english muffin.

Having spent the Sunday mainly child free and then the night with the baby tucked up next to us in his travel cot, I can recommend the Sunday Spa experience for both young couples or friends looking for a luxurious way to spend a Sunday as well as this hotel to families who want a break away in the Welsh Capital. Throughout our stay both John and I were really impressed with the staff who were very friendly and more than happy to help. Unfortunately the hotel does not have parking if you are travelling in by car but do offer a discount for the NCP parking directly in front of the hotel, it's also very well located if your travelling by train as it's near both Cathays and Queen Street Station. Overall we had a fantastic time and really could't fault anything, especially the food.

Thanks to Park Plaza for inviting us to review their Sunday Spa Break package

  10. This looks fab and what a bargain too! When I'm back home I will definitely be checking out this package. I'm always moaning about needing a massage after work but at least I don't have a little baby. Sounds like it was just what you needed :)
