Exploring Petworth, Sussex

06/12/2015

A couple of weeks ago we had the chance to nip down to Sussex for a little weekend break, time to de-stress before the manic that is Christmas as well as explore an area of the UK we haven't had the chance to do before. We stayed just outside of the quaint little market town of Petworth and spent the best part of a day wandering around the chocolate box and character filled streets, quaint boutique stores and enjoying lunch in a wonderful warm traditional pub.

In the afternoon we headed over to Petworth House, a national trust property with lots of outdoor space for Mr A to run wild, kick leaves and climb trees. The actual house on this occasion was closed except for the little tea room which we popped into to warm ourselves up and I can recommend their delicious chocolate brownies. Even with the house closed the grounds are stunning with plenty to see and do in the 700 acre parkland including an ancient tree walk and spotting a herd of fallow deer.

Pet worth is such a visually stunning place and very upmarket, it's the kind of village we would love to live in or retire too, if only we could win the lottery that is as it's in the London commuter belt, on second thought I could always have a go at a mobile casino while on our travels and have fingers and toes crossed for a win so we could live here...or simply see the world in our leisure.

This time of the year can get so manic, everything seems to be in over-drive around Christmas so it was nice to have enjoy two days in new surroundings, enjoying nature, long walks and some quite time before heading back over the boarder to Wales.

  1. Ah I really want to go back and explore all these places that I used to live in, my mum was obsessed with moving so whilst in Sussex we lived in Petworth, Chicester and Midhurst. Somewhere else too I think, my bro is at uni in Brighton so we are going to plan a trip after Xmas. Lovely photos! x

  4. It's great that you managed to make the most out of the time you had away in Sussex. Relaxing as a family must've been a big need before all the stresses of Christmas came up to play! the grounds at Petworth house look fab for a run in the fresh air! Thanks for linking up with me on Country Kids
