The trick to successful small-room storage is to know how to fit in every inch of the room so it does not seem crowded. Rather than introducing heavy furniture or filling the room with cabinets, storage items in modern society are designed with emphasis on intelligent design, concealed areas, and multi-purpose furniture. This guide tracks the innovative and real-life approaches to fit in additional storage in tiny rooms without distracting from the clean, stylish, and comfortable ambience. Why Storage Matters in Small Spaces ? Storage is not only about concealing messes but also directly affects the experience and operation of a room. Good storage design has benefits like : *Reduces visual clutter *Improves room functionality *Creates a more spacious appearance *Makes everyday routines easier *Helps maintain the organisation long-term Poor storage may easily result in overcrowding and stress in a small room, whereas smart storage will provide calm and balance. I am currently in the throes of a much-needed mini upgrade of my bedroom. I'm pulling off the outdated wallpaper, the old carpet is being pulled up (I hate carpet), and hopefully I can repair the floorboards so they are usable as well as repainting the walls and redesigning the space in the hopes of creating a calming and welcoming space. A lot of the process I am planning to do myself to help keep the budget down and only bringing in tradesmen when needed and I think it's also important to know when to do that as there are somethings that are beyond my skill level and at those times I don't have an issue paying for the skills of a builder or capenter and getting the finish I really want. However, there are plenty of simple and easy ways to update your bedroom space 1. Make a statement with paint and artwork A fresh coat of paint can do wonders to any space but when adding a bold colour or accent wall, it can really add something special. It's also a room to have a b......

Five Features That Make Your Home Sing
When you want to make your home stand out, whether for your own pride or because you’re trying to sell up there are lots of options. You can add features that are unusual or futuristic, or choose a timeless addition that adds to the value of your home. Let’s consider five features that make your home sing and make visitors gasp in amazement. Modern Fireplace and log burners Fireplaces are still popular features in our homes and a fantastic array of modern and traditional designs are available. Despite most homes having central heating a fireplace still represents a focal point in a living space. Standalone wood burners are also popular and can be enhanced by a purpose-built alcove to hold logs. Models that rotate allow the benefit of the warmth as well as the view of the fire to be enjoyed wherever you are in an open-plan room. Impressive Front Door Your front door is what visitors to your home will first encounter so this is the perfect opportunity to introduce a feature that will imp......

3 easy ways to get a better nights sleep
*This post contains affiliate links Falling asleep can be a real challenge (it's something I struggle with), especially when you're awake at 3 a.m, staring at the ceiling waiting for dawn. My mind often goes into overdrive at night and I struggle to drift off or settle but while this is of course very tiring in itself I do know that there are healthy sleep habits one can do to prevent this and that is what I am going to be working on this year. I've done a fair amount of research showing several habits and practices that I really meant to help improve your chances of more restful slumber. Some of the changes are pretty minor, which can feel less overwhelming for those with busy lifestyles or shift work. This is what I have learnt so far and will be trying out this year in an aim to get more sleep because as we all know a goodnight's sleep can have a huge positive impact on our health and well-being, Turn your Bedroom's Environment into Sleep- Inducing One Did you ......
*This post contains affiliate links Metal beds are modern and sleek, but they can also feel cold and metallic so here are some tips to make your bedroom space and bed softer and warmer and can be applied to any kind of bed. If you have a metal bed, chances are you love it but want to make it a little bit cosier, and this article will help you do just that with ten styling tips. Let’s jump right in! 1. Hang fairy lights above your bed Fairy lights are beautiful because they mimic the stars at night, so hanging them above your bed will create a real sense of wonder and warmth. If you don’t want to be dazzled by them, try hanging the fairy lights behind coloured netting or a bedsheet suspended from the ceiling. 2. Wrap the top of the headboard/footboard in Tulle If your metal bed has an ornamental headboard or footboard, wrap the top section in netting to cover up most of the metal you touch and soften the look of your bed. The type of netting you need is voile or tulle, see-through......

A peaceful nights sleep with a nanu pillow
This post is a paid collaboration with Nanu Sleep Do you know that most of us sleep on a pillow that is over five years old and 40% of Brits never wash their pillows!! I know I was pretty shocked reading that too but in all honesty, I can't remember the last time I bought a new pillow, it has a lot to do with the fact that the past few years I've been knee deep in nappies and just trying to get through the day so I know I've slipped on a few things, although good to say I do wash them every now and then. With sleep being so important to our mental and physical wellbeing how come we are so slack at making sure we have a decent pillow to lay our head on each night? I mean it's an essential purchase and yet something a lot of us seem to overlook. Well, I've been working with the fantastic people at nanu who are running a pillow amnesty and encouraging everyone to make a switch every 3yrs and not just for any mediocre pillow but for a budget-friendly cust......

Small Bedroom? You can still go big on style
Having a small bedroom, for some, is a deal-breaker when it comes to buying a house or looking for apartments for rent in Miami . There’s nothing easy about designing a bedroom smaller than the rest of the rooms in the house, particularly when the biggest focal point of a bedroom is, of course, the bed. The bed base, the mattress, the duvets and pillows – they all make a statement. Whenever you walk into your bedroom , you want to feel calm and at ease, not overwhelmed by the clutter and mess because the bedroom is smaller, and so doesn’t have a good solution for storage. It’s for this reason that you need to consider how to design your small bedroom so that it works well for you. In my house our living spaces are much larger than our bedroom which is one of the smaller rooms but we have made it work. Modern downsizing , new builds and apartment living have decreased bedroom size over the years, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a functional, comfortable and beautiful......

Let's talk about sleep (or lack of)
Can we just be honest for a moment and talk about sleep and how much it changes when you become a parent. Before kids, you didn't even have a second thought about going out on a Saturday and coming home in the early hours because your bed was yours and you can stay as long as you like. That is certainly not the case now, in fact, each day I have a small sense of dread as we head into the evening because it often doesn't go how I planned with two young children one of which seems to avoid sleep like the plague. My youngest who is nearly 2.5yrs has never slept solidly through the night, meaning from 8pm-8am, on good nights we have 1-2 wake ups on bad nights we have multiple wake ups or waking and not settling, we had a faze where he would wake up from 3am-6am and lately with the lighter nights despite blackout curtains he is often up much later than his bedtime, not due to lack of trying on our part - its hard! When he was under 1 he was waking around 6 times a nigh......

Recreating that hotel feel at home
I don't think it's hard to dispute that once you become parents a relaxing break away every now and then is very much welcomed. To stay in a hotel where you don't have to worry about making the bed and a lie-in on a comfortable king-sized bed is a given. Of course due to time and expense it's not something many of us can afford to do as much as we would like which got me thinking why not inject a little bit of that luxurious feeling into your home and create a bedroom that is a haven for calm and relaxation? I thought I would share easy, simple and cost-efficient ways to bring that luxury feel into your home when you don't have a massive budget. Here are my top 5 1. Declutter - edit your living, bedroom and bathroom spaces and by streamlining and making full use of any storage space you have will instantly make you feel more relaxed and make the room look more spacious. Go with a white or a more neutral palette to create a crisp luxurious feel that you g......

Frugi Organic Bedding - Review
We love to support ethical and organic brands and products and are trying to bring more of that into our lives and home so when Frugi , a well known children's brand we love got in touch and asked us to try out their new organic bedding for kids we jumped at the chance. The main thing I wanted to test was comfortability because if the kids are not comfortable they are not going to sleep and as any parent will know a good night sleep is essential for your sanity. Occasionally I do find organic products to be a little itchy or not as soft but this is not the case with these beautifully made duvet and pillow set and both the kids love the colourful designs which add a real sense of fun to their bedrooms. We picked the campervan and the fish design which are both unisex. They both have a printed design on one side and stars on the other and just like their kids clothing you can't fault the quality, the cotton is thick but breathable and even though perhaps in r......

Essential Moving Guide
Arrival – Moving Day It is important that the cars arrive before the vans so that someone is there to open the house and unload the smaller items whilst the removal men pack up the last of the boxes. Start loading smaller and essential items into the cars and when you arrive at the new home you can start unpacking the cars, just make sure you put these boxes somewhere safe and out of the way. Once the vans arrive, unload the large furniture from the van and place them in the house roughly where you want them to stay in a room, then move everything in around it later on. When selecting a removal company ensure you pick a local business that covers your area, for example in London if you’re looking for Chelsea Removals then spend a good bit of time looking around and finding out which companies cover specific areas, and what charges may be incurred if you cross the distance threshold of some lesser removal companies. All boxes should be labelled, so drop them into their alloca......

Moving on up - From cot to bed
It feels like I blinked and my youngest has gone from a newborn to a toddler in no time and is learning things at such a fast pace. He watches his older brother like a hawk and is so eager to get involved and keep up with him. Every morning he climbs over me as we co-sleep most nights and the first thing he does is go to his brothers room to see if he is awake and tries to climb into his bed, which doesn't always go down well with my eldest. As soon as Baby G is up he is going a hundred miles an hour and I think things have happened quicker the second time around such as walking, using cutlery and his communication skills because he has an older sibling to look up too. Even though like I said we co-sleep nearly every night and my youngest is yet to actually spend any time over night in his own bedroom we feel thats it's not going to be that much longer that he will be ready to go from the travel cot that is right next to our bed to his own toddler bed so w......

Styling a guest bedroom
When we move we are hoping to have a small study space or extra guest bedroom where our friends can come and stay for a few days and explore the Welsh Capital. Being an expat means that I have lots of friends and family who I would love to visit and the prospect of being able to style a space like this is very exciting. Of course space would be limited, a spare room would most likely be the small space such as a box bedroom so keeping things simple but stylish is key to making the most of the room. I have put together a little moodboard of a few key bedroom accessories I think would make the room feel welcoming, comfortable and cosy but still on trend. 1. In a small room the main furniture would consist of the bed, side table and small wardrobe so space for a large lamp may be limited so this Copper Desk lamp would be a great space-saving choice. 2. I love notebooks and when I travel it's often the time I feel most inspired to write something down, so ha......

If you need new furniture, look at thrift shops, consider online catalogues, consider financing. Look for ways to save, and ways in which you can reduce this burden, as it is typically the priciest of all things you are going to do when remodelling a room.
