*This is a paid partnership with VELUX and BritMums We all know that natural daylight and fresh air are really good for our overall wellbeing and the more we can bring these two things into our home, the better. When we were doing our loft bathroom I wanted it to make it light and airy even though the space is very small. It now feels spacious and airy due to our VELUX roof window, which floods this small space with an abundance of natural daylight, making it one of my favourite rooms in the house. I find it incredible how one small change can have such a big impact on a room but it really can! I know sometimes people overlook bathrooms but surprisingly we spend a lot of our time each day in one and stepping into a light and airy room first thing in the morning can really help lift the spirits and prepare you for a busy day ahead. The Scandinavians are well known for their minimalist and well-designed homes that have a real focus on bringing the outdoors in, using VELUX roof......

Slowing down the Swedish Way with Moccis
I was recently asked by Moccis to bring a little bit of Scandinavian lifestyle into my own home and routine and couldn't wait dive straight in and embrace slowing down and getting cosy this winter season. Like most people I love Christmas especially since becoming a mum as it's just so exciting and magical but can also be overwhelming, trying and stressful although it really doesn't have to be and the Scandinavians seem to have the key when it comes to balance and staying mindful not matter what time of the year it is. Most have heard of the Danish Hygge but the Swedes have their own version - Lagom, the art of being contented and thats something I really want to learn more about. So what is this Lagom that everyone is talking about? Well it's basically creating a happier and balanced life all year round and being more sustainable, making less waste and living more consciously without depriving yourself of the things you love. Well I have talked many times a......
Living in or near a city does often mean a compromise on space but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on having beautifully designed interiors. I'm hoping this blog post will go a little way in helping you to achieve the designer-style you see in glossy mags and Pinterest boards but on a minute scale as I share a few of my favourite products at the moment. The simplicity of scandi-style lends itself to smaller spaces where you are tight on space. The furniture is slim, with clean lines and generally comes in lighter colours. The main key the seasons is to declutter, simplify and also bring things into the home that are multidirectional and can be used for more thane purpose such as this shelf-come-desk below which is an example of an ingenious space-saving design. This shelf ladder is ideal for achieving a scandi inspired look while saving room and creating an office ‘space’ all rolled into one. Dwell have a version you can purchase here . The simple a......

Summer, Cider and the Swedish Way
Summer to me is all about enjoying the best of life, long days, good conversations, warm evenings, coastal walks, picnics, eating al fresco, festivals and finding lots of down time to spend in the garden with the boys, taking it slow and savouring a summery afternoon drink. Growing up in South Africa meant very long hazey summers, people seemed more laid back there, life in the UK certainly feels very fast paced and hectic in comparison which is probably why I feel drawn to the Swedish concept of Lagom and for those who don't know what that is it's all about the concept of "not too much, not too little just finding the balance" and creating a happy life. As you may know I am only a minimalist challenge and attempting to declutter my life and lagom fits into that perfectly with the theory that just enough is perfect with lack of fussiness being key. So I'm excited to pair up with Rekorderlig Cider which I love (cider is my go-to summery drink......
I know it's not spring yet but after all the excess and mania of Christmas I feel the urge to simplify and reorganise our home and life. As I get older I have become more and more minimalistic although it can be hard when children come along and have felt the past few years we have built up too many things that we simply don't need. I was brought up in an un-materialistic household where less was always more and if you did need to buy something going with quality over quantity was key. I personally find having a more simplified household, which is in turn is easier to organise, much better for the mind and soul as clutter in your home can also clutter your thoughts. Of course it's much easier said than done and I too am all about sentimentality but if it's not useful, practical or atheistically pleasing then one should rethink about wether they really need it. The thing is I am not alone in feeling this way - experts actually say that disorganised people and t......

Kitchen Simplicity
Both John and I have recently made a real commitment to lessening the amount of unnecessary things we have in our house, to do a complete declutter and keep things as simple as possible. Personally I have always been a believer in less is more but when you have kids you automatically increase the amount of clutter in your home ten fold over night. We are giving ourselves a few months to have a real sort through everything which is also going to help get the home looking ready for when we put it on the market in spring. I love the simplicity of the flat we stayed in in Earls Court over the summer Inspired by the chic Scandi designs my first focus point is going to be on the kitchen diner which luckily is a wonderful size with a large island and built-in fridge. I want to reclaim back our dining room table and use it for crafts Mr A and I do daily. I also want to replace the stools, paint the skirting boards and simplify our kitchen surfaces and get rid ......
