Revitalise Your Interior Space

Creating a home that is truly in line with your personal style takes a lot of patience. Most people simply don’t have the money to invest thousands of dollars on decorating each room when they move into their first place. They need to find affordable solutions for seating, dining, and decorating. However, as we mature and have more disposable income it makes sense to invest in surrounding ourselves with the things that make us feel happy, relaxed, and energized in our homes. Even when we have the money and the desire to upgrade our living space, that doesn’t mean it will necessarily be an easy or quick process. It takes time to find the sofa that is both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing or a bedroom set that offers ample storage and the clean modern look you have envisioned. The key to success is in seamlessly integrating the new pieces into your design. The two easiest ways to do that is to focus on purchasing foundational pieces to anchor the room and then work with sim......

Letting the Kids takeover our Sofa

As some of you may already know we are gearing up to sell the house in the spring time so we are trying to make the most of every space we have in our home. We have done the renovations we felt where necessary to improve the property and have left some of the work done by the previous owners such as this glass brick feature in our lounge which allows light to come in from the hallway which is much needed as this is a low ceiling welsh cottage. It's not to our taste to say the least but it serves a really good purpose and offers a feature wall in our main social space. As it's quite "busy" we wanted to keep the overall interior of the room fairly minimal with well designed pieces that are timeless but stylish so when DFS got in touch over the summer asking us to take on a fun little challenge I couldn't wait, especially as our current sofa was being held up with my sewing box (seriously! Lets just say it had come to the end of it's life) S......

For the love of Modern Period interiors

We are edging closer and closer to putting our house on the market and we cannot wait, our time in our little welsh hobbit house as we refer to it as the ceilings are so low are coming to an end. We are all in need of more space, more light and in Johns case a doorway he doesn't bang his head on everyday. As much as the rustic appeal is to us and it really does, our home is a bit neither here or there in terms of location, only 20mins from the city on the edge of a small town so it doesn't have the slower pace feel as you would find in a more rural location and equally does not have the colour and culture of living within walking distance of the city. We have also found over time our real passion and dream would be to find a small bay fronted Victorian property as we absolutely love the combination of a period property with a fresh and modern look that embraces the original features of that time rather than covers them up. I think the Scandinavian inspiration that has b......

More from The George Home

As you may already know we were invited to view the new George By Asda homeware and furniture collection a few weeks back, it was a fun filled day with activities for the kids, a scrummy lunch and some chit chat with four other lovely bloggers while taking in the beautiful styled home in North London. I have written about the day here but felt as there was so many beautiful details that I wanted to share a little bit more with you as well as the Vlog I have put together about the experience.  As I have said before this collection really stands on it's own and both John and I were very pleasantly surprised with the quality and design of all the products with may on trend pieces at reasonable prices. There was a real Scandi feel in the living spaces and when we move into our new home, hopefully later this year, we are planning to purchase one of their stylish sofas. What also caught our eye was their lamps and light fittings, especially the copper effect t......

5 Tips for Buying the Perfect Sofa

It's that time of the year when you want to curl up on a comfy sofa with a big mug of coco and some warm throws, arms around the kids or with a book in hand and wind down the day. The thing is both of our sofas are getting on a bit, they are well used but are like a Chesterfield which get's better with age, rather with our two the legs on both are starting to go, mainly do to an overexcited 5yr old who thinks it's very funny to jump from one to other, turned into a den or simply form just being used daily by a family of four, so we are on the hunt for some new sofas. Could these two look more comfy? It's surprising how important and central a sofa is to a room as they need to be inviting, comfortable as well as fit into the space rather than consuming it. You want your sofa to make your room feel spacious rather than small or cluttered with furniture that is too bulky. As buying a sofa is a rather large investment you need to do some pre-planning when i......

A place to relax

It's been a pretty long and hard week with the baby waking up around twice every night and then Mr A being up ready for the day at 7am it's no wonder I am feeling a little bit under the weather this weekend. I know some downtime, restful sleep and good food will do the world of good. This weekend I am going to make time to relax, have a cup of tea, ready some magazines and cosy up with some blankets on the sofa. Love this simple scandi interior style  Unfortunately our sofa is on the way out, one of the feet has bent in a way that cannot be fixed and is being propped up by my sewing case which is not ideal but does the job, although now it's also starting to go in the middle so on this occasion I may have to over-ride my "make do and mend" mentality and start looking around of a new one. In a way thats not a bad thing as neither of us really loved the sofa when we bought it a few years ago, it was just practical at the time but thinking about how muc......

Enjoying some sofa time

Really want to cosy up on this stylish sofa ( image) I have to say coming into my 35th week of pregnancy I am really starting to slow down and the energy levels have really seen a drop of late. I have up until this point felt fairly fit and active but the time is coming that I really want to curl up, watch some TV or read a book on a big comfy sofa and embrace a moment of calm before the chaos. Perhaps this more lazy approach to the start of the year is not the best but I am going with it as it's what my body needs right now and I am letting myself enjoy everything that this "down time" has to offer these cold evenings as well as relaxing to some of our records in the record nook. Relaxing in our record nook So for this once I am not going to be beating myself up about not totally keeping track to my New Years resolutions and to be honest I think sometimes we all need to give ourself a break as well as approach things in a realistic manner and with ......

Classic and Timeless handmade wooden furniture

How beautiful is this English Oak refectory table! For those of you who read the blog regularly will know I love things made out of natural materials  wood and not much comes more exquisitely and beautiful made than that of Titchmarsh & Goodwin handmade and bespoke pieces which are firmly in my wishlist of things to own in our new house one day. It's always wonderful to see such amazing things come out of the UK and for traditional skills to be celebrated. I love the story behind this iconic British furniture maker which has been going since the 18th century and is family run. All the pieces are handmade from scratch at their workshops in Suffolk from sustainable wood sourced in UK forests. It's so refreshing to see unique large scale pieces being made with so much love and attention to detail. I love this contemporary Walnut Sofa  I think why I am so visual drawn to their products is the clever design and mixing modern and traditional styles together to......
