10 Ways to Get Your Start In the Creative Industries

*Contains affiliate links  A career in creative industries is something that is appealing to many people but it's now always the easiest industry to get a foothold into, although with a clear plan and ambition it really is possible. I always knew I wanted a creative job when I was younger and I feel very privileged to be able to write for a living but it took a lot of work to be able to do this full time. Firstly I started out about 15yrs ago writing for local and community-based magazines while studying in Photography and Photojournalism at college and then University, although I strongly feel you don't have to go to University achieve your goals.  There are plenty of opportunities in the creative industries but often you have to go out and find them. Besides writing for local magazines during my studies I also worked for an events company as a festival & live bands photographer, learning the importance of selling rights to images, networking and being profession......

5 Positive ways to be happy in 2019

Well what a year, full of ups and downs and everything thrown in-between. 2018 saw a real movement to normalising things like Mental Health issues and getting more people sharing and talking about their own experiences, also the huge shift to Body positivity , owning your body and feeling less guilting about being a bit more selfish and making time for self care. Woman in general have also taken somewhat of a centre stage in standing up for our rights and using more platforms to have a voice and be heard. Diversity has also been key, what makes one person happy doesn't apply to others and that needs to be respected, health and fitness means different things to different people but doing what feels good is key and that is something that should follow through into 2019. With the world seeming more manic it's important to not get overwhelmed and to be easier on ourselves and not be too many things at once, which in turn can cause stress and a sense of failure. Here are a few ......

Warrior Women Events Cardiff

There has been a long-overdue wave of change in Cardiff over the past year for creative women starting their own businesses. For years it's been a bit stop-start in the city when it comes to well organised all-women gatherings for the more creative types and making a space for like minded women to come together, swap ideas, support each other and build on both social and working relationships. Considering Cardiff is a small city and has a lot to offer in term of freelancers, makers, designers and digital workers it's great to see events like this starting to pop up over the city. Starting a business or deciding to go freelance can be a scary step to take and often we are juggling more than one ball especially if you have a growing family or external responsibilities which is why I feel it's so important to surround yourself with an empowering and encouraging community and that is what these Warrior Women events intend to do. Being someone who is self employed, run......

Using a Social Detox as a Therapist

Regardless of what you do, your background, your family dynamic, your size, where you live or how large your social circle is, we all experience up's and downs in life, this is a fact. The body and mind is made to feel certain emotions, it's how we grow and all apart of the learning process. Some days, weeks or years are simply harder than others and often when it happens it feels like it happens all at once. As i'm now on the other side of what has been a difficult start to the year I wanted to share a little bit about the curve balls this year has thrown for me and how even when you try to just power through there is a point in which you have to stop and gather yourself before it really starts to cause havoc and admitting you need to slow down for a moment is not a sign or weakness but rather a sign that you care for your own wellbeing. At the end of last year, just before Christmas I felt exhausted and burnt out and not just from work but from the constant jug......

How to Keep your home safe while travelling

The days of simply locking your front door and heading to the airport or on a road trip or even just a weekend away are long gone. With more and more people on social media, showcasing holiday snaps, it's easy for the general public to know when your away and that can of course cause some issues when it comes to home security. Most burglaries occur when people aren’t home and is many cases are away for a few days, but that doesn’t make you feel any less victimized. It doesn’t make recovery any less emotional or frustrating. It doesn’t make you feel any more secure at night when you lay down to sleep. 1. Being careful on social media and websites You have to be mindful about  information sharing on social media . If your accounts are public they are open to anyone readying them including thieves who are now scouring social media trying to find personal information that can be used for their own benefit. You also have to be very careful about sharing your whereabouts. If......
