Flooring choices shape how a home feels long after the initial installation. Patterns that work across decades tend to share a few traits: they hide wear, suit multiple room types, and adapt as tastes shift. Herringbone ranks among the most enduring designs for these reasons, with its interlocking zigzag layout adding visual interest without overwhelming a space. Families often prioritise durability and ease of care when selecting flooring, particularly in high-traffic areas like hallways and stairs. Knowing how different materials behave over time helps homeowners make informed decisions that balance upfront cost with long-term value. Choose Herringbone When You Need a Pattern That Works as Hard as Your Family Does Herringbone's zigzag layout spreads foot traffic more evenly than straight patterns, distributing pressure over a broader area and extending the life of flooring in hallways and entrances. Its visual depth brings a practical benefit too, as smudges, minor scuffs, and fo......

I am currently in the throes of a much-needed mini upgrade of my bedroom. I'm pulling off the outdated wallpaper, the old carpet is being pulled up (I hate carpet), and hopefully I can repair the floorboards so they are usable as well as repainting the walls and redesigning the space in the hopes of creating a calming and welcoming space. A lot of the process I am planning to do myself to help keep the budget down and only bringing in tradesmen when needed and I think it's also important to know when to do that as there are somethings that are beyond my skill level and at those times I don't have an issue paying for the skills of a builder or capenter and getting the finish I really want. However, there are plenty of simple and easy ways to update your bedroom space 1. Make a statement with paint and artwork A fresh coat of paint can do wonders to any space but when adding a bold colour or accent wall, it can really add something special. It's also a room to have a b......
Having a garage can be an incredibly useful space to have, yet for many, it becomes a dumping ground for stuff that doesn't fulfil its potential. If you are lucky enough to have a garage is it’s just being used as a storage dump or a place to park the car? Well you might be missing out on the true value this space can offer. Your garage doesn’t have to be a cluttered afterthought, with a few smart changes, it can become a well-organized, functional extension of your home. 1. Maximize Wall Storage When you think of extra storage, your first thought might be to add shelves or cabinets. But have you thought about maximizing vertical space? The walls of your garage can be a treasure trove of potential storage. Wall-mounted racks, pegboards, and cabinets can transform your garage’s capacity without taking up valuable floor space. Hooks can be installed to hold bikes, ladders, or even gardening tools. With a pegboard, you can create a customizable storage solution for smaller items lik......
*This post contains affiliate links Thinking about updating your interior spaces, maybe you have one room, in particular, you are working on? For me, it's my lounge and then my kitchen, both of which need new flooring. My lounge is carpeted and ever since we moved in I have always wanted to replace the carpet especially as it's starting to look old no matter how much I clean it so I have started to explore options when it comes to flooring. A lot of people are beginning to see and hear the benefits of having luxury vinyl flooring which is more affordable than some of the other options while proving an increasing level of satisfaction and security for homeowners who want a great look on top of low maintenance for their lifestyle, which is what you want when you have kids. It is viewed as a very reliable and budget-friendly product over real hardwoods and stone styled flooring and provides many benefits on top. As I love interior design but have to work to a small budget, I th......

Easy ways to keep your kids room tidy
*Contains Affiliate links I'm tired of constantly tidying up after the kids, the cat, all the toys, so anything I can do to minimalise this I will and there are a few simple ways to make life a little easier. While unfortunately, house chores can unavoidable there are ways to reduce the amount of time you spend doing them. I thought I would share a few key tips on how to help keep your children's room clean and tidy for longer. 1. Declutter This is one of the most important steps to take and yes it can be time-consuming but it's worth it. As children get older they will naturally grow out of some of their toys and this is a time, together, to say goodbye and rehome some of their toys and clothes. The more you can give away the better and there is a reason why so many people rave about the minimalist trend being good for mental wellbeing. 2. Organise Once you have done a major declutter it's time or really organises where things should go - it's im......

A rug revolution
We are hoping to purchase a period property when we move later this year, a place that has some original features and fingers crossed wood flooring we can bring back to life, but even with the most beautiful floors they can at times feel cold or lacking a little spark and thats when purchasing the right rug can make all the difference to a space and works just as well on tiled or carpeted floors. The main bonus about investing in a few well made rugs is that its still a lot cheaper than re-carpeting or replacing your current flooring yet can make a huge impact. There are however a few rules that you need to follow or take into consideration as well as some tips that will help you to purchase the right rug for the right room and thought I would share them with you. 1. Size - its really important to make sure you buy the right size when choosing a rug because if you get it wrong you can make a room look very cluttered. Smaller rugs are better for highlighting smaller pi......

Why your home needs wood flooring
As, quite possibly, your biggest asset, investing in your home is usually a smart move. So freshen up your living space and add value to your property. Change things up by installing wood flooring and give your home a classic and expensive. Then simply reap the benefits wood flooring will bring to your home if you ever want to sell. It will be well worth it! What type? There are so many wood flooring options available it’s hard to know where to start. Choose either solid wood or try engineered wood flooring, which is composed of two or more layers of wood to form a plank. Some practical concerns to think of first would be issues such as humidity levels and the condition of your subfloor. This is because solid wood is likely to expand and contract as humidity or temperature levels change. So if your home experiences humidity changes or you have underfloor heating fitted, then engineered wood flooring could be a better choice for you. What style? Lig......

Beautiful home, beautiful floors
You may have noticed over the past few years that I have a thing for floors, beautiful floors, I mean why wouldn't I, they make up so much of ones home and just as we decorate our walls with Art, family photos and prints we equally need to invest in something that feels good under foot. You really cannot underestimate the impact flooring has on a room and really does add a true dimension of style to any space. This years trends is all about that fresh and minimal Scandi look, out is dreary carpet and over the top out-dated patterns and in is stylish painted floorboards, large slate tiles or smooth vinyl finishes that can be dressed up with a rustic handwoven rug. You aim should be to make your rooms feel as light, airy and spacious as possible and as I always say less is more so try and keep clutter to a minimal and bring in either earthy tones or whitewashed hues. Personally I love wooden flooring as there is something truly beautiful about the imperfections of wood ......
