5 Family Friendly things to do in Liverpool

We are really long overdue a trip up north as it's been a few years since I visited Liverpool to see my brother who was at University there at the time and I really enjoyed exploring this northern city and have always wanted to go back with the kids in tow this time. So we are planning to spend a weekend in both Manchester and Liverpool later this year and can't wait as they are both full of culture and creativity and a great destination for a weekend city break. We would most likely only get a day or two in Liverpool and being the planner that I am I thought I would share with you our 1 day Itinerary I have put together for when we visit. Some of the sights I have already seen but it was so long ago (pre-kids) that attractions like The Beatles museum is still a must.

1. Visit The Tate

Having visited the Tate Gallery St Ives a few weeks ago and the kids really enjoying immersing themselves in Art and getting hands-on with creating some of their own, visiting Tate Liverpool for us would be a must. I did actually visit many years ago and was really impressed, very modern and forward thinking and exactly the type of cultural hotspot we like to share with our kids.

2. Ferry across the Mersey

Just like Gerry and Pacemakers, you cannot visit Liverpool and not take a ferry across the Mersey. We all know that kids love to ride in trains and buses and the same goes for ferries and you can also pair up your ferry ticket with entrance to some of the other iconic Liverpool attractions such as the interactive Spaceport or U-boat story - both very worthwhile.

3. The Beatles Story

Yes it is a little on the pricey side but if your music lover then this place holds a lot of history and the opportunity to learn about their influential legacy they had on the British music scene. There is also a Discovery zone aimed at children within the museum which has a giant walk-on keyboard and the opportunity to listen to some records and create some Beatle inspired Artwork.

4. The Liverpool Wheel

When we visited Helsinki a few years back we took a ride on the Helsinki Wheel and it was a fantastic way to see the city from a different perspective and see right across the city and that is what is great about these giant Ferris wheels and the Liverpool Wheel is certainly on our bucket list as kids love going on them. The Liverpool Wheel is also positioned right next to the historic waterfront for stunning sea views.

5. Nature trail in Chavasse Park

When exploring a city with children I think it's really important to still squeeze in some quality outdoor time that connects them with nature and helps to run out some energy. Chavesse Park is perfect as it offers loads of stylish places to eat at Liverpool One while the kids can take advantage of the five acres of landscaped gardens. There is also a nature trail that takes young explores around the park, you just have to pick upa leaflet from the Information centre.

  2. Would you believe I've never been to Liverpool before? I drove by it once, en route to Wales - I remember the tall smoke stacks. It's a city I should really make an effort to visit!
