UK Staycation Boom is Driving the Demand for Luxury Safari Park Lodges

Staycation trends are surging across the country right now, with the latest statistics showing that over 50% of Brits would rather stay domestically than travel abroad. A lot of this is being driven by cost savings, and local businesses are looking to capitalise on it.

Safari Parks and Zoos are Expanding their Appeal with Luxury Lodges

At one point, if you wanted to sleep next to giraffes or watch zebras out of your hotel window, you'd have to book a safari trip to Africa. Now, however, things are changing. UK zoos, wildlife and Safari parks are now offering exclusive after-hours tours, which include evening feeds and a luxury lodge that allows you to look over the animals.

Chester Zoo is now offering an African-style safari lodge. London Zoo has a Sleep in the Gir Lion Lodge experience, which is inspired by India’s Gir National Park. This includes a three-hour tour at night. Whipsnade Zoo also offers a Lookout Lodge experience, which allows you to view white rhinos as well as reindeer.

By bringing experiences like this closer to home, zoos across the country are now capitalising on whole new business revenue, while providing animal lovers with the chance to see animals in a natural habitat, for a fraction of the price of going on a safari.

Safari Experiences are No Longer Limited to Those with Big Budgets

Safaris are becoming more accessible than ever, with VR tours having a big part to play here. VR experiences allow you to feel like you are on an African safari tour, without leaving your home, and all you need is a compatible headset. Rangers in Africa are putting out more streams, where people can tune in to tours given by experts. The WildEarth Safari Live stream also helps people to view live remote cameras, which track big cats across the Savannah.

Even in iGaming, the savannah is a theme, with casino UK titles including Savannah Riches – Big Bass Jackpot Bonanza. Titles like this showcase the iconic plains, with wild animals like lions, elephants, and buffalo. This type of exposure helps to drive interest in seeing these animals in real life and provides a glimpse into the natural environment they live in.

Simulators, like The Hunter: Call of the Wild, also allow people to track animals in the savannah, hunting under controlled conditions to control populations, which helps the ecosystem to thrive.

As more awareness is brought to African wildlife, and as staycations become more popular across the UK, it seems that businesses are looking to build on the buzz generated by staycations. Convenience, cost savings, accessibility, and lower budgets are all paving the way for some new and interesting experiences.

As time goes on, it wouldn't be surprising to see more and more businesses giving people the chance to stay in luxurious lodges that overlook wildlife. There may even be a surge in adventure-themed activities, as people look to strike the fine balance between relaxing and taking in extraordinary views, with adrenaline-fuelled activities and experiences that help to make holidays memorable.
