The Benefits Of Upcycling

In the hustle and bustle of refreshing our living spaces, old furniture often finds itself on the less glamorous end of change. But wait, don't be too quick to say goodbye to those trusty old pieces! Keeping and storing old furniture, rather than discarding it, can be a surprisingly savvy move. Let's explore why holding onto those pieces might just be a stroke of genius. A Nod to Nostalgia First off, old furniture is a treasure trove of memories. That coffee table isn't just a coffee table; it's a silent witness to countless family gatherings, late-night chats, and lazy Sunday afternoons. Each scratch and dent tells a story, adding a layer of warmth and history to your home that simply can't be bought off the shelf. By storing these pieces, with the help of secure and convenient personal storage options like Safestore , you're essentially keeping a tangible piece of your history alive, ready to tell its tales to future generations. Helpful DIY tips

There aren't many things more satisfying than completing a DIY project around the house. You save some money on repair or upkeep costs, you gain a sense of accomplishment, and you often even pick up some new skills along the way. But as most experienced home DIY'ers know, it's not always as easy as it looks to complete a project like this. You'll likely need to research who to do a given job, plan it out carefully, and practice on-the-go. But perhaps above all else, you'll need the right tools and equipment to get the job done. This is something all too many of us have realised when reaching for an old, forgotten toolkit only to find it sadly lacking or depleted! With that in mind, here are some general supply tips that can benefit anyone who regularly takes a DIY approach to home projects. Stock Up On Protective Gear When considering supplies for home improvement projects and similar efforts, it's easy to think only of utilities. There's alway......

A little kitchen list

Loving this simple kitchen styling by H&M We are hoping to list our house on the market within the next month and I really want to bring a sense of simplicity to our kitchen and their are a few keys pieces I want to have to dress the space up as well as take with us to our next property. The one thing I learnt from my mother is to never leave things to chance - you need to show each space off to it's full potential and picking up a few key pieces can really do that. I have been eyeing up a classic flip clock for a while as well as this honeycomb style wine rack . I also plan to do a little bit of upcycling and these dipped painted stalls have given me some good ideas for our kitchen island seating area. Other small kitchen accessories I am loving at the moment and all cost under £10 is this simple ceramic mug , slate heart coasters and simple fabric storage box. What is on your wishlist for your home? ...

Money Saving ideas when re-decorating your home

Buying a property can be an expensive business and re-decorating it or doing it up can cost even more but turning a house into a home can be cheaper than you think if you follow some basic rules. I have learnt a lot from my parents who have over the years transformed a variety of properties and with each project my mother has picked up some amazing skills which she is now slowly passing on to me. Here are my top tips on saving money when re-decorating your home 1. Paint is your friend Get acquainted with it, learn how to apply it and you will be fine. A dreary room can be transformed with a lick of paint, it's such a simple and cost effective way to bring a fresh feeling to any room and there is no excuse to not be able to do it yourself. Upcycled furniture in the babies nursery  2. Up-cycle old furniture We have done a fair amount of this. Our bedside tables were out-dated pine wooden ones which we sanded back and applied some chalk paint and replaced the d......

New Years Resolutions for the Home

Well I cannot believe how quickly the past year has gone and how excited we are for the New Year, for many reasons but mainly because it's going to be bringing a lot of change as we expect our 2nd child and plan to put our house on the market as well as hopefully find a new project to take on. Of course this is if everything goes to plan and to be honest we are running a little behind on finishing the house and have decided that we need to put in place a few goals and resolutions when it comes to the home. I always think putting ideas to paper is a good thing and making realistic goals is important to keep on track...so here is a little bit of what we have planned for 2015 1. Get organised - I am not talking about having a super clean and efficiently run home but rather being organised for the week and day ahead, knowing what we have to do and attempting to do it, I think this is vital with the new arrival on it's way and homeschooling Mr A, I know applying basic plans ......

Bedroom snippets and dreamy inspiration

A little interior inspiration reading is always on hand in our bedroom  I have to admit that our bedroom is the most uninspiring room in our house at the moment, mainly because we have been working on our living room, kitchen and Mr A's room and only now are finally looking at making our personal space well more personal basically. I really want to add more colour, invest in some beautiful bedding, wall art and well designed pieces such as a free standing mirror. For now however we have been dealing with the essential changes first such as getting the awful artex on the ceiling removed and re-plastered, re-carpeting as well as repainting the whole room and recently upcycyling our bedside tables, but now those things are finally done we can look at personalising the space more. Slowly books, makeup and little bits and bobs are finding a home in our room. We have recently got a new king sized bed which is a really welcome sight after squeezing into a double as Mr A......
