Easy Ethical Swaps to make & not just for Earth Day

We all know we need to make small (and big) changes to become more eco friendly as our planet earth simply cannot sustain the amount of waste and plastic humanity is currently creating and while big business & government policies across the world have a large part to play in helping to repair the earth, we also as individuals need to do what we can, within our financial means (for some it is without a doubt easier to be more ethical than others due to where you live, income etc) but there is usually some steps we can all make and many in fact can save you money in the longterm. Here are a few doable things we should all be working towards changing In the kitchen An easy swap is ditching the tin foil and cling film and switching over to wax wraps - they last around a year, are easy to use and clean and do just as good of a job plus they are perfect for sandwiches, packed lunches and keeping things fresh in the fridge. There are plenty of indy makers on Etsy selling starter packs fro......

3 eco-friendly period products you should try

*AD I was kindly given these products to review without payment and these are 100% my own views We all know we need to do more, leave less of a trace, reduce plastic and our own carbon footprint where we can and luckily there are more sustainable and reusable options than ever and that includes period products.  So I decided to put three very different options to the test with the main criteria being reliability, sustainability, portability, ease of use and budget, with the last one being very important as I believe that sustainable options should be more accessible for those, like me, on a tight budget.  1. Hey Girls Menstrual Cup £8 This reusable menstrual cup is one of the most budget-friendly on the market as well as having a social conscious as with every purchase they donate to help someone in the UK in need. The actual cups are non-toxic, hypoallergenic and made from medical-grade silicone (latex, phthalate, BPA free) and can be used over and over again.  I've tri......

5 simple ways to make your home more eco friendly

*This post contains affiliate links  As we move into 2020 there are more and more people who are keen to make positive eco-friendly changes not only to their lifestyle but also to their home to ensure they lower their carbon footprint. With so much advice out there is can often feel a bit overwhelming so I am keeping it very simple and straight forward with 5 ways to make your home more eco-friendly this year. 1. Change to an ethical energy provider I put off doing this for years until my bill with one of the big six became unmanageable & their billing system was way too complicated to understand. I wasn't actually looking for an ethical provider at the time, just a provider that offered a more competitive rate. I came across Bulb energy which not only was a lot more reasonable (I've saved a considerable amount switching to them) but also they provide 100% renewable electricity from solar, wind and hydro and their gas is 100% carbon neutral. Such an easy money-sa......

The thoughtful gift guide

*I'm not being paid to include any of these products. I have been sent some samples, although not all & this is my own gift guide of suggestions for Christmas As we move into an age of less is more and are slowly reducing how much plastic we bring into the house, or if we are that it's recyclable as well as looking to gifts that serve a purpose or give back in some way, the way we shop is surely changing. While Christmas is about fun, festivities and family and I do believe that a little bit of indulgence is never a bad thing and not to get too caught up with how ethical something is as I feel many of us are starting to feel the weight of guilt, I wanted to put together a small gift guide of easily accessible gifts that offer something back, are meaningful and thoughtful gifts and hopefully you will find it of some use.  1. Shine Shampoo Bar These make for the perfect stocking filler and not only are these shampoo bars good for the planet as they com......

A low waste Pledge All parents can commit too

Last week I went to a fantastic and inspiring Warrior Women event in Cardiff, the theme was Environmental with an excellent panel made up of an ethical blogger , a Vegan cafe entrepreneur and a ZeroWaste shop owner. Having a personal interest in being more environmentally aware I found the talks very interesting, full of positivity and hearing each ones story and journey was empowering. The only (tiny) disconnect I had is that none of these women were mothers, now being an independent woman who doesn't appreciate being put into the box of "motherhood" as a single summary of my life and interest and insist on being seen as a Woman, Sister, Daughter, Parent, Business owner and Freelancer, I also cannot deny the massive impact having children and a family have on a household and one's ability to be more eco-conscious. I also know from personal experience that one cannot even surmise the impact without going through it first hand, believe me I was one of those ......

Small changes that make a big difference

Think about it, you walk into a major store or supermarket for your weekly grocery trip for you and your family. You walk around, pick out all of the items that you need for the month and head to check out and let's be honest most of us at this point are giving more consideration to the amount of money that it is going to cost you, than paying attention to the amount of plastic being used to wrap the items you have picked and on top of that you may have forgotten your reusable bags (it's an easy mistake to make). The thing is we really do need to implement some changes as most people will be aware that now more than ever we are seeing first hand the impact our disposable ways are having on planet earth, our only home. According to the  Environmental Protection Agency  in 2015, 34.5 million tons of plastic were land-filled in the US alone. Of that, 100 billion plastic bags are tossed away each year by and it takes 300 years for each one of those little bags to go away!......

Small Gifts for the Modern Millennial

Millennials, we cover a pretty wide age range, even though I have kids I still fit into the Millennial generation and while I cannot talk for everyone the way we navigate this digital world is far different to our parents era and therefore our needs are different. Many of us live life on the go, we live more for today and like to enjoy the things we can afford like brunch and coffee (as cliches as that is), as a generation many of us are also thinking more ethically, we want to support local business, be more sustainable and travel a little more. Also personally I find when it comes to gifts I want them to be meaningful or practical and here is a little gift guide for the digital millennial. 1. In a world where we are trying to cut out plastic as much as possible these two gifts are perfect for eating and drinking on the go as well as look stylish and dear I say Instagrammable. I am loving the stainless steel Black + Blum thermal food flask which keeps lunch both hot o......

Pregnancy update and Essentials for the Home

Once again I can't believe I am already 35 weeks pregnant although I have to say physically I certainly feel it a bit more now. Keeping active and fit is still very important and we have a few outings planned over the next 2-3 weeks, I just hope we don't run out of time. It's strange but certainly true that each and every pregnancy is different, this time round I don't have the sciatica that I suffered with Mr A but I do have really bad rib pain as well as leg cramps every now and then. Luckily as with the first time I have managed to stay stretch mark free (fingers crossed) although I do swear by using creams throughout the pregnancy - they certainly do seem to help. Nesting has certainly set in and making sure we have everything ready. We kept pretty much all of Mr A's clothing and bedding so thats one less thing to worry about, although we did get rid of some things during the two house moves since having him, including a very useful but simple bouncer. T......
