Firstly, I want to say that I am not a big user of AI, esepically Generative AI, which has, without a doubt, an impact on the environment, and as we move through the world, I feel sustainability and travel need to go hand in hand. What I have also learnt is not all Ai is equal in its energy and water consumption, in fact, there are stark differences between some platforms, such as using smaller, specialised models which has minimal impact and avoiding large energy-thirsty platforms such as ChatGPT (I still have never used this) and also opting for companies committed to carbon neutrality.

The reality is however, that AI is here and it's changing the way people book and plan travel and here's how.

However, with anything like this, do fact check the information provided, double check hotel reviews and opening times etc and don't fully rely on any platform to do this all for you.

If you're a foodie who loves hiking, the system won't waste your time recommending shopping malls and theme parks.

Again, I am not a fan of AI chatboxes but in some occasions that can be useful in sorting out problems on the spot and are often available 24/7, which is at times needed when faced with travel emergencies that don't follow business hours.  Some chatbots are available to assist with everything from booking changes to destination queries and many have moved beyond the frustrating automated systems of the past that could only handle simple requests.

It's a good reminder that Ai if used, is still a tool, and you cannot rely on any one piece of technology fully, so always share plans with family, backup bookings, emergency numbers, tickets etc just in case and always read over any itineraries first to see if they are actually suitable before just diving headfirst.
