Pentewan Sands - 5 reasons to stay this summer

sunset flair

We recently had the chance to head back down to Cornwall to check out the 5 star holiday park that is Pentewan Sands situated on its own private beach near St Austell and see first hand what makes this place perfect for a family getaway. The drive down was really smooth and straightforward and checking in was very quick and easy. There are a variety of accommodation options from bringing your own tent or touring vehicle to hiring one of their family-friendly Caravans. We stayed for 3 nights in a Platinum 3 bedroom Caravan which made for the perfect base. The caravans go from Bronze all the way up to Diamond and Flagship, two above our category. Our Caravan was in a lovely spot with less than a minutes walk from the beach but incredibly peaceful. I have to say this is only our second static caravan holiday and I was extremely impressed with the facilities of this park and can see why it's so popular with families who want to get away and keep things simple without any big fanfare or huge amusement parks but a focus a good balance between nature and it's beautiful location while giving everything parents need to enjoy the trip.

If your thinking of heading down to Cornwall this year here are five reasons why you should consider Pentewan Sands for your next break

1. Private Beach

Pentewan Sands comes with its own private beach which is great for post-lunch walks or evening meanders and has beautiful white sands, is nice an sheltered so is a great place for kids and parents to have a dip. They also offer water sports such as stand-up paddle boarding or kayaking and the Hubbox is their seaside American style diner which has a large terrace on the sand so you have a good view of everything going on. Much to my youngest delight, there is also a small playground on the beach with a slide and some spider swings and we also spent a lot of time picking up seashells. It was lovely and quiet despite it being very sunny and warm which makes a change from the usually packed Cornish beaches so having this private space is a huge plus.

2. Getting Active as a Family

As I just mentioned they have watersports on offer as well as the outdoor playground but the Holiday park also has a tennis court including a children's court and rackets and balls can also be hired. If you fancy exploring further afield the park connects to the Pentewan Cycle trail and bikes are also available to hire every day of the week. If it does happen to be raining while your there no fear as there are two private indoor swimming pools, one for laps and the other mainly for children with water flumes. If you are still looking for ways to exert some energy from your kids then you can pop into the very well laid out soft play which connects to the cafe meaning parents can sit back and have a coffee while their kids run around. It's also one of the cleanest soft plays I no loud music or garish toys just simple fun. Best of all is both the indoor pools and soft play are completely free of charge to guests.

3. Fantastic Accommodation

We really couldn't fault anything about our static caravan and believe I did a very thorough check and the whole place was spotless and well laid out with new appliances and everything you need for a few days away. Our caravan was made up of one Double bed and two twin rooms, I would point out though that the single beds are quite narrow so are better suited for children and teenagers while the double bed is perfect for parents. The caravans are also equipped with everything you need to be self-catering and even though they have a few great catering options on site there is no reason why you can't serve up a family meal in your own time. The highlight for me was the decked terrace with seating and a view of the ocean, this was the perfect place to spend sunning mornings with a cup of coffee and the cooler evenings with a glass of wine.

4. Location Location Location

Some touring and holiday sites can feel a little isolated which can be a good thing but I really liked that this is just a short walk from the quaint and cute Pentewen Village which has a few shops, cafes and a traditional pub and it gives you a chance to explore and have a change of scenery. The pretty town of Mevagissey is also less than a 10-minute drive away and is a wonderful traditional Cornish harbor town with a small Aquarium and plenty of ice-cream, pasties and shell shops which sit along the vibrant harbor where you can watch the boats come in and out. The holiday park itself is in a really tranquil spot between the sea and raised cliffs it safe, relaxing and a great spot to really get away.

5. Local Food

As I mentioned there are a few places to eat on site as well as in Pentewan Village and nearby towns but what I love about the very adequately stocked shop on site is the real focus on local produce and this seems to follow through in the Seahorse restaurant, beachside Hubbox and the traditional Hideaway. During our stay we indulged in a fair amount of ice-cream on the beach and homemade cakes while my son ran around the soft play as well as fresh salads and sharing platters, topped off with some locally made Cornish Cider.

We were all extremely impressed with this holiday park from beginning to end with excellent facilities, friendly staff and an easy and well laid out park that was very spacious and even though there were quite a lot of pitches full during our time it never felt busy. Its definitely somewhere we would come again and recommend because rain or shine there is plenty to do.

Thanks to Pentewan Sands for inviting us to stay for 3 days

  4. It sounds like you had a lovely time. We live on a static homes site in Portugal but I must admit it's facilities are not as good as that one. Doesn't stop lots of Portuguese or Spanish families from holidaying here though.
