I n my experience, there’s nothing quite like the feeling that comes with carving out a space that is truly your own. By taking your surroundings and injecting a bit of yourself into them, happiness and belonging are never too far away. And the living room seems like a good place as any to put that into practice. So today, I’m going to be sharing how to (re)decorate a living room on a budget that feels professional yet authentic. You’ll get that editorial, put-together edge, whilst not straying too far from your roots, budget or your morals. Yes, modifying your living room need not be expensive, character-depleting and can be environmentally sustainable and I will be sharing some tips on how to help make that happen. Defining your purpose & limitations I think the biggest hurdle we face as homeowners is the sheer number of options. Open to us are so many choices: keeping on top of home repairs DIY or calling in the professionals; deciding whether to redecorate the living room with......
While the flow and spaciousness of open-plan living offer many benefits, it’s not always the most practical layout. Assigning spaces for certain purposes becomes more challenging when walls are removed. But there are still ways to create functional zones without them. Follow our tips to bring more purpose to your open-plan home. Strategic furniture placement You don’t always need walls to separate living spaces, you can do it with furniture. Sofas, tables, shelving units and other additions can be incredibly effective dividers, helping to define spaces without closing your open-plan home. In a spacious kitchen, dining and living room area, corner sofas offer cosy seating and a natural divide between these spaces – all without making a space feel cramped. Open shelving units and bookcases can provide functional borders while maintaining visibility from one side of a space to the other. Be careful to not impede the flow between zones, though. Using colour to distinguish areas If m......
We would all love to say that we found the perfect home for our needs, but the fact is that families and circumstances change. There are some surefire signs that your current home is no longer serving you, and in this case you will need much more than a simple DIY decoration project. Decide whether or not you can turn your old home into something you can be proud of by renovating it. Find a few tips below. Your Home Is No Longer Making You Happy If you don’t walk through the front door every day with a smile on your face, looking forward to having a chat with your family members and relaxing on the sofa or reading a book, there might be something wrong with your decor and the functionality of your home, too. If you can’t get a separate space for relaxation and all family members struggle to do what they enjoy, you might need to talk to professional Contemporary Architects to redesign your space and make it more functional for everyone. Revitalise Your Interior Space
Creating a home that is truly in line with your personal style takes a lot of patience. Most people simply don’t have the money to invest thousands of dollars on decorating each room when they move into their first place. They need to find affordable solutions for seating, dining, and decorating. However, as we mature and have more disposable income it makes sense to invest in surrounding ourselves with the things that make us feel happy, relaxed, and energized in our homes. Even when we have the money and the desire to upgrade our living space, that doesn’t mean it will necessarily be an easy or quick process. It takes time to find the sofa that is both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing or a bedroom set that offers ample storage and the clean modern look you have envisioned. The key to success is in seamlessly integrating the new pieces into your design. The two easiest ways to do that is to focus on purchasing foundational pieces to anchor the room and then work with sim......

Letting the Kids takeover our Sofa
As some of you may already know we are gearing up to sell the house in the spring time so we are trying to make the most of every space we have in our home. We have done the renovations we felt where necessary to improve the property and have left some of the work done by the previous owners such as this glass brick feature in our lounge which allows light to come in from the hallway which is much needed as this is a low ceiling welsh cottage. It's not to our taste to say the least but it serves a really good purpose and offers a feature wall in our main social space. As it's quite "busy" we wanted to keep the overall interior of the room fairly minimal with well designed pieces that are timeless but stylish so when DFS got in touch over the summer asking us to take on a fun little challenge I couldn't wait, especially as our current sofa was being held up with my sewing box (seriously! Lets just say it had come to the end of it's life) S......
As some of you may already know we bought our current property as a bit of a project that needed some work done, before intending to sell, hopefully later this year. We have slowly been working through each room getting ready to put it on the market. Things have gone much slower than expected, mainly because having two small kids at home is not overly conducive for renovations. The picture above is our partially finished living room space, at this point, we had taken away the badly built-in shelves and terrible wooden surrounds and replaced them with more useful storage but otherwise, we have pretty much been making do as the living room didn't have too many issues to start with but now we are ready to get the paint out and get what we need to be done to finish this room. Firstly we will be painting the walls white instead of this slight off white shade, we are going to paint all the skirting boards, fix the fireplace surround, box in wires properly, get a carpenter in to bui......
Our current house, as nice as it is, is not a home to us and was never going to be, we bought it as a smaller project unlike the full renovation before that and we always knew we wouldn't stay more than 2-3 years in it and now it's very much time for us to move on. There are many great positives to our current property mainly being the large living room and a very spacious kitchen diner with french doors to a good sized garden but it's simply not "us", we bought it as an investment and I think we will always see it as that and we are excited to move onto another project and since John and I have been together it will be the fourth place we will call home. With each move, we have learnt something new about the whole property game and what not to do, especially as each time we have moved we have grown in size and now we will be selling with not only one young child in tow but two! We had hoped to have had the house on the market earlier but along came Baby ......

5 Tips for Buying the Perfect Sofa
It's that time of the year when you want to curl up on a comfy sofa with a big mug of coco and some warm throws, arms around the kids or with a book in hand and wind down the day. The thing is both of our sofas are getting on a bit, they are well used but are like a Chesterfield which get's better with age, rather with our two the legs on both are starting to go, mainly do to an overexcited 5yr old who thinks it's very funny to jump from one to other, turned into a den or simply form just being used daily by a family of four, so we are on the hunt for some new sofas. Could these two look more comfy? It's surprising how important and central a sofa is to a room as they need to be inviting, comfortable as well as fit into the space rather than consuming it. You want your sofa to make your room feel spacious rather than small or cluttered with furniture that is too bulky. As buying a sofa is a rather large investment you need to do some pre-planning when i......
