Making a house a home

For those who don't know we are in the process of selling/moving and all that stressful jazz. Emotionally I have already moved and I cannot help but keep picking up little bits and bobs for the new house and when I saw this simple and smooth fruit bowl I had to get it...I love well designed natural products. ...

Getting our Glamp On

So last week we braved the floods and downpour and decided that the bad weather wouldn't stop us from doing some sort of camping this year. As it's been such awful weather we opted not to sleep under canvas but instead stayed in an eco off-grid camping pod in Bude, Cornwall. I lived in Cornwall for a year a few years ago so it was nice to be back and we the new addition to the family. It was also nice to have time away from technology with there being no wifi and I didn't even take the laptop as I didn't want the temptation of being able to watch a DVD but instead savour the moments with John and Mr A, reading books and having good conversations. The pod was still pretty basic in the way it had no form of heating, no electric and the toilets were outside. But it did have a bed with memory foam (need to have this at home!) and an amazing outside gas bbq but because of the weather we didn't have much chance of using it except bravin......

Happy Happenings

So it's that time again - instagram lovelies from the past few weeks and what a busy few weeks they have been with our "mini" summer heat wave, Olympic torch tour and the Queens jubilee...so lot's to celebrate. Since the sun decided to come out the first thing I did (like everyone else) was try and find a paddling pool for arthur to cool down in, which was difficult as nearly all the shops had sold out. John and I have also been trying to spend as much time together as his job at the moment means long hours so the time we do get has to be quality time and I love the photo of him and Arthur. It has always been a week of getting back to things I love such as playing my guitar and listening to records and cooking healthy meals from scratch like the vegetarian curry. I also decided to give the Graze boxes a go...to be honest it wasn't as healthy as I thought with focaccia bread, buttery flapjacks and a bombay mix...none of my five a day :( so I am not sure if I will......

My wonderful SITS day

I cannot believe my SITS day has finally arrived. For those who don't know SITS - The secret to success is support - is a support system for women bloggers and every day a different blogger is featured and today is my day :) I always thought I would have something big planned for the day - a really funny or interesting post - but often life can get in the way and for the past few days my 18month old sun has been under the weather with a virus and high fever and anyone who has a toddler knows when they are ill life stops. So here is a short introduction to Side-street Style. It's a blog run by Me (Laura) and my partner John and also features Arthur our son. John is a traditional cut throat barber and I recently graduated from my photography degree. We both love life, fashion, travel, art and being creative and bringing up our son in a green and frugal way. We involve our son in every aspect of our life and believe you don't have change everything about yoursel......

River Island Delight

So I haven't been into River Island for a very longtime, for some reason when I do shop on the high street I find myself in Topshop, Urban Outfitters or H&M and seem to overlook River Island, not for any reason in particular but the shop window on Queen Street really caught my eye and had to have a quick look inside, although due to time constraints I finished the rest of my browsing online at home and I have to say I am very pleasantly suprised with their current collection, it's full of fun prints, aztec designs, music inspirations (very Lana Del Ray) and the new pastel trends, they also have a well tailored men's collection...here are some of my favourite picks.... Here is a sneak peak of some of the mens collection ...

Dreams of a SMEG Kitchen

The plan is to move very soon *exciting* and since I have recently fallen in love with the application that is Pintrest , I have found it to be an amazing tool when scrap-booking my idea kitchen. I love the cook and to me the kitchen is the heart of the home, the one place I could spend a lot of money on to get just right. I love wooden floors, solid oak tables, home-made trinkets and retro fittings. One of my biggest "must haves" for the new kitchen is a SMEG friday, ohh for how I have longed for a SMEG fridge for so many years. Their design is timeless, and fits with pretty much any type of look you are going for, be it rustic, vintage, modern or contemporary - there are not many products that can do that! So I better keep saving because I won't settle for anything less Here are a few visual inspirations....and dreams..... ...

Catwalk Cardiff vintage love

On thursday John and I attended the annual Catwalk for a cause , which as the name suggest is a Fashion show in aid of Charity - the charity being Marie Curie Cancer Care . It was put on by the Grosvenor Casino in Cardiff Bay with the help of the Cardiff University Fashion Society students. As we had never been to the casino before we didn't know what to expect but the venue was very sleek and John said for a moment he felt like he was back in vegas. We had a drink at the stylish bar before the we took our seats for the show, it was quite a small room but nearly all the seats where filled and there was a really great atmosphere. The theme of the show was High Street Vs Vintage with some local vintage boutiques lending their best as well as high Street brands such as Coast, New Look and Next to name a few getting involved for the good cause. On the seats where little goodie bags filled with some Neal Yard delights which I cannot wait to try, it always really wonderful to see brand......
