Looking to take a family holiday? There’s no shortage of options to consider and it all comes down to personal preference but many families will find it difficult to argue with the appeal of a good cruise ship. According to the Cruise Lines International Association , more than thirty million passengers opt for this kind type holiday each year and many of these are travelling on a ship that’s built for families. But exactly what is it that’s so appealing about this form of holiday? There are a number of definite upsides. Entertainment for All Ages: Fun for the Whole Family When you’re travelling on the right cruise ship, you won’t have to worry about seeking family-friendly entertainment. There will be plenty of on-board options. These might include kid’s clubs and other activities in the daytime, to family-friendly stage shows in the evening. Family-Friendly Shore Excursions The entertainment, in many cases, won’t just be on board the ship. You’ll also get the chance to disembark at a......

Why the Norwegian fjords should be on your bucket list

It's hard to deny the allure and natural beauty of Scandinavia and it's a place I keep coming back to. Even if you are not someone who would normally consider a cruise, one down the Norwegian Fjord will never fail to be breathtaking as the fjords are truly a wonder of nature, especially in the Geirangerfjord which is over 60 miles and on the UNESCO World Heritage list for outstanding beautiful.  What makes the Norwegian Fjords so special ? While fjords can be found in other countries such as New Zealand and Canada, it's Norway that comes in at the top of the list with over 1000 fjords and several of them are UNESCO World Heritage sites. The fjords were created by glaciers in Earth's last ice age, which created deep carved valleys like the ones in Norway, some of which are thousands of meters deep.  What to see and do in the Fjords 1. Hiking The Norwegian fjords are a playground to those who love the outdoors and provide a great base for hiking enthusiasts. Going on hike......

Our 2016 travel Wish List

The boys running free in Tenby earlier this year Well 2015 was pretty action packed, not only did we introduce Baby G into the world but we also took him on his first overseas trip to the Netherlands when he was just shy of 4 months old, a trip which involved many trains, trams, underground, buses and an over night ferry from Harwick to the Hoek of Holland as we embraced slow travel . We also spent some time on a beautiful organic farm in Somerset and enjoyed a fair few city breaks with our favourites being London (we do a big tip there each year) and Bath  as well as spending some much needed relaxing time in West Wales mainly around Tenby , Narberth and exploring  Bluestone . We also crammed some camping and festivals in over the summer and glamping in Sussex this Autumn. Our time was spent discovered castles, exploring National trust properties and embraced us changing from a family of 3 to a family of four. Mr A in Cannes  A New year means a whol......

5 Reasons to take a family cruise in 2016

This year we decided to visit one of our favourite cities – Amsterdam by taking an overnight ferry from the UK instead of flying with two young kids. We really enjoyed the slower travel aspect of it and found it an extremely enjoyable and stress-free way to take kids overseas and in 2016 would love to take a longer cruise, not only take in some amazing sights, visit some stunning locations but also enjoy a laid-back holiday. Before I had children I took a cargo ship from South Africa to the UK which took 28 days so a cruise ship would be absolutely luxury in comparison. I thought I would put together 5 reasons why we should all consider a cruise in 2016 Good Value – most cruises are all inclusive and cover food, accommodation and all the fun extras such as on-board cinemas, swimming pools and entertainment and transport between destinations, taking out a lot of stress and allowing you to budget easier for on-land excursions. Nearly all ships are also equipped with Wifi,......

Our 2015 travel Wishlist

Mr A in Brussels last year If you read the blog you will know we are passionate about travel, between John and I we have travelled to 26 countries and every year we try to make that number grow. In some ways it was easier before having kids but oh how much more exciting it is with Mr A. My father always believed that travel was one of the best educations you could give a child and it's something that we strongly encourage and agree with. Being able to try new food and sample other cultures is the perfect learning experience at any age and even though we are expecting our second child in a matter of days we have some exciting plans, ideas and travel dreams for 2015. The three of us enjoying Amsterdam  Overseas A Scandinavian Cruise - we never really focused much on cruises before but last year we did an overnight ferry and Mr A loved being on a large ship and sleeping in a cabin with a big porthole and I think it's the perfect way to see amazing places in a rela......

Our 2015 Cruise Wish-list

Being parents and leading rather busy lives, planning ahead is key, of course, we still love to do things on a whim but with another little one on the way in February we are already putting our travel wish-list for next year together now and we have found ourselves for the first time talking about the possibility of a cruise, something we may have not considered before but I have to say with all the amazing child-friendly options today it's sounding more and more appealing and here are a few more reasons why you should not discount taking a cruise next year They are very family-friendly and offer some great entertainment options and on-board facilities which will be perfect when we have a newborn travelling with us. Taking a cruise also allows us to visit a few destinations in one visit which is something that is very attractive to us. It's something a little bit different, I have been on a month long cargo ship before but it was nothing like a cruise ship woul......
