A New York Bucket list
I love nothing more than planning trips, what we are going to see and do, working out the best way to navigate local transport systems and staring at maps for hours while imagining what is going to be like actually walking the streets of that destination. I still cannot believe that even though I have been to 25+ countries, including the US and even far flung islands like St Helena, I have never been to New York City. John however has been three times and I know it would be fantastic to go with him which and the plan is to celebrate his 40th at Toms Diner which is in just over 2yrs time. As we do a fair amount of travel there is a good likelihood we may visit this amazing city before than but either way its time to start planning what I would love to see and do. We plan to have around a week in the city and while both John and I have similar interests he is a huge fan of The Warriors movie as well as shows like Seinfeld and have been to Coney Island, Greenwich Village, downt......

Dreaming of Winter in New York
Swirling snow and Times Square, Christmas at Bloomingdales and wintery walks through Central park, all of those things are calling me right now and if I had the money and time I would jump on a plane and be there in a New York minute. Are you also crazy about New York City? You've seen all of the great NYC tourist commercials, from the classic "I Love New York!" to the latest ones that seem to feature 20 seconds of Central Park and little else. Harry Nilsson once surmised that, "The Lord must be in New York City", and he really did seem to have a point. What's stopping you from going to the city to see for yourself what the epic hubbub is all about? There's a heck of a lot more there than meets the eye of even the most seasoned traveler or native. Is New York City really the place of dreams ? There are a thousand movies, songs, stories, and plays that celebrate the enduring majesty of the Big Apple. Is it all hype? Not hardly! New York Cit......

Best Luxury Hotels in New York City
John has been to New York three times and is so far his favourite city, although Tokyo, LA, Moscow and Helsinki are still on his list so he may change his mind but for now he loves to vibrance, action and creativity that is found in the big apple and has been making plans to visit again soon so we thought we would share a list of the best luxury hotels Manhattan has to offer. Langham Place Check into Midtown with upscale accommodations at Langham Place . You certainly can't beat the location near Macy's, Grand Central and the Empire State Building. Swedish-designed beds, Italian bed linens and marble baths make this accommodation a blend of global styles. Langham place, New York Peninsula For those who love Fifth Avenue, nothing beats a stay at the Peninsula in Midtown East. At one of the most enviable addresses in the city, the Peninsula has swanky stylings like luxurious Italian bed linens and flat screens installed above soaker tubs. The amenities in......

Fathers Day Gifts for heart & home
How cute is this French bulldog card from Etsy So fathers day will soon be upon us and it's one of those wonderful days of there year we get to celebrate our partners, husbands, Dads or in fact any man in our life who has a positive impact. I always like to find something a bit different and fun, something that will bring a smile to my OH face and thought I would put a little gift guide together from the small little touches to the bigger gestures, lets treat the men in our lives. 1. John is not a jewellery kind of guy but I have to say I do love these Anchor and Crew necklaces from JewelStreet and they make some amazing unisex and ladies pieces as well (so you could always nab it for a bit). 2. We both love travel as does Mr A so this custom compass is something that could also be passed down from father to son. 3. Johns favourite city and many others is New York so when I came across this book on Find a Present about the faces, humans and street style in New......

A tour of New York’s artiest highlights
Someday soon hopefully we will travel to the Big Apple as a family ( image ) John has been lucky enough to visit New York three times and even though I have been to America I have never been to this amazing city and one day we hope to go together, as a family with the little man in tow of course. Even though John spent a lot of time going to various markets, exploring Brooklyn, visiting record stores and taking in all the street art he did miss out a lot of historically important Artistic highlights and places that would be on my list of must do. We have put together a list of places we would like to go together to be creatively inspired and hopefully it won't be too long of a wait before we can make this list a reality. Beautiful loft apartment ( image ) First of all to start off our cultural and artistic trip I would love to stay in a warehouse conversation or large windowed Manhattan loft, I mean why not, you only get to do these things every now and the......

Is 60 the New 40? How to Age Gracefully
Love this from Advanced Style I am in love with the blog Advanced Style - it's really different and refreshing and is the brainchild of Ari Seth Cohen who roams the New York Streets looking for the chicest, creative and fashionable older folk and some of them really know how to put an outfit together and are truly inspiring and remind me of my mother who is my constant source of classic style. My mother enjoying eating el fresco in the sun According to psychologists, the key to ageing gracefully is to accept the fact that life doesn’t stay the same and that yes, ageing can change the way we live our lives. Attitude matters a lot, and if you let the negative aspects of ageing get to you, you’ll surely have fewer reasons to laugh. Accepting the fact that we aren’t as strong-boned as we used to be and preparing for the lifestyle changes that come with it can make ageing easier to manage. The Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw once said, “You don't......
John in New York So we have been talking a lot lately about a possible trip to New York, John has been 3 times before and even though I have been to the States I never visited New York which of course is high on my list and John would go back anytime he could but this time would like to do some foodie exploring further afield in places like New Jersey and Philadelphia as well as the big apple of course Adventurous fans of good food are almost always on the lookout for a new restaurant or café to try, be it a newly-opened bistro or an oft-recommended village pastry shop loved by all. If you have a sweet tooth and are looking around Margate NJ real estate choices for your new home, you’ll be glad to know that you have these unique pastry and dessert shops around. B&W Bakery ( image ) B&W Bakery, Hackensack This small bakery is an institution in Hackensack and is famous for its heavy crumb cake. The cake has the perfect cake-to-crumb topping......
