8 Welsh festivals to put on your summer bucket list

Summer is nearly upon us and for many that can only mean one thing, festivals! As they say music is the source and combined with camping, good food, meeting new people and stepping away from the normal day-to-day reality, festivals are always a highlight on our summer bucket list, plus children of all ages love festivals and I say this from years of experience.  While Wales doesn't have Glastonbury, it is often referred to as the "land of song" and for a good reason, with its rich musical heritage and is now home to some incredible medium and small festivals that are well worth checking out. Beyond the Border Festival, St Donats

Beyond the Border is a Storytelling festival that happens every two years at St Donats Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan and is a fantastic festival for families and those wanting something a little bit more slower paced than some of the more action-packed ones during the summer, this isn't to say there's not plenty going on because there is but equally its easy to just sit back and take it slow. This was actually the second year we have attended BTB Festival having worked with them in 2014. Going beyond the border

Earlier this month we went to our first Festival of the year - Beyond the Border International Storytelling festival. We have been to a few music and art festivals but never one dedicated to the art of story telling and really didn't know what to expect. Located in Llanwit Major at St Donats Castle you could not ask for a more inspiring and enchanting venue and with an equally beautiful walk from the campsite through a little forest and then along the coast to the actual venue, something we enjoyed each morning. The festival itself is beautifully small and intimate and has everything you need, including a dedicated toddler tent that had 3-4 story slots a day and a little drawing and chill out corner. We loved the Milgi Hedgegrow bar and tent which had open mic each evening as well as the mashed tea tent and making tent where we made a willow dinosaur. Travel Adventures of Late...sneak peak

So last week we spent it down on the coast in Llantwit Major glamping it up in a lovely Bell Tent at Beyond the Border storytelling festival. It was magical to say the least, fresh sea air, a walk through the countryside to the festival, late night whimsical stories and array of tasty wholesome food, quite simply a lovely break away.
