Castle Cardiff
Cardiff Castle, just one of the fantastic sites in the Welsh Capital

As a family we love nothing more than exploring what is on our doorstep here in Wales and the UK as there is simply so much to see and do and plenty of adventures waiting to be had from beach breaks and countryside hideaways to vibrant cities we have it all. Great Western Railway has fantastic routes across the UK taking you from Swansea to London, Penzance to Oxford and many more. We love trips by train and have taken many over the years as a family, it's such a relaxing way to travel as appose to driving, you can sit back and watch the world go by while the kids colour in, no stressful petrol stops or taking the wrong exit on the motorway and that is why I am promoting the #GWRAdventures competition which gives you the chance to win a pair of First Class tickets to any destination on their route.

Fairytale Castle
Castle Coch, another beautiful castle to explore if you visit Cardiff

How To Enter

All you have to do to be in a chance to win is share your one of your favourite pictures taken anywhere on the GWR Network and upload it to Twitter or Instagram but make sure to tag it with #GWRAdventures and your location but be quick as the competition closes on the 8th April 2018! Your photo doesn't need to have been taken on a fancy camera, it could be that memorable sunset you managed to capture on your phone or the perfect wave you caught on your GoPro, just share the places that inspire you and others to hit the rails and see more of the UK.

Cosmeston Country Park, South Wales

Being the Cardiff Ambassador for this competition I thought I would share my five favourite spots in the city should you be heading to the Welsh Capital soon and all make the perfect spot for capturing the essence of the city.

1. Cardiff Castle - We are so lucky to have such an eye-catching Castle right at the centre of the city and a beautiful one at that. You can explore the stunning apartments and Arabic room as well as climb the mount and take in the amazing view from the top.

2. Cardiff Bay - Many may not know this but we have a waterfront in Cardiff, filled with chic coffee shops and eateries as well as being home to the Millennium Centre which hosts some of the best theatre productions around. You can also walk across the Barrage to Penarth.

3. Bute Park - this wonderful green belt that runs through the city and is a wonderful place to get away from it all and take a stroll. During the summer months it's a great place to meet up with friends for a picnic.

Mammoth Fossil
National Museum Cardiff

4. Old Arcades - if your looking for some of the best coffee in town or want to browse some independent shops with everything from antiques to clothes to slow French food you can find it on the old Arcades.

5. National Museum - the national museum is a hit with all ages and if you have children its a great place to come to as it's free and has a wonderful dinosaur exhibition. It's also housed in a stunning building, full of natural light and has a great collection of modern art.

Cardiff is just one of the fantastic destinations on the GWR network and the Welsh Capital really offers something for everyone and if you haven't been why not consider it for your next staycation adventure? So get those photos in and good luck, hopefully you will be hitting the rails this Spring to take a GWR Adventure.

  1. What a wonderful campaign, we love to travel by train. It allows us all to enjoy the adventure rather than one of us having to drive etc.

  4. I haven't been to Cardiff since my teens - I remember it being such a lovely place though. I think I need to go back as an adult to experience it all over again, and train would definitely be the easiest way to get there!
