How to talk to children about cancer

So this post deals with a more sombre topic than usual but it's something that has been on my mind and have had to deal with lately so I wanted to share my experience on talking about this subject in a sensitive an respectful way to your children. Earlier this year I lost one of my oldest and dearest friends from South Africa to colon cancer, she was only 32 and despite losing my Aunt to breast cancer a few years prior this one was hard for me to get my head around, it was all so unfair. My eldest son luckily had the chance to meet my best friend when she was over here with her boyfriend and we all met up in London before the cancer diagnosis. When I found out about the news my son knew who I was talking about, he knew she was ill, he knew she had cancer but children always look to the positive, he just kept saying to me "she is going to beat it right, beat the cancer". I didn't want to scare him but as the end came near I didn't want to lie either so ......

Balancing Childcare when at home and on holiday

Being apart of the Millennial generation as well as being a self-employed work from home mother of two active boys I know my life like many others is pretty hectic as well as very different to our parents generation. Now more than ever people work digitally and nomadically, offices have been exchanged for coffeeshops, hotels and even city centre parks and we are seeing more and more woman taking advantage of being able to work around their children and from home. Also with the rising cost of living we see a more move away from the traditional setup of there being one breadwinner in a family and now two incomes are usually needed. Working flexible hours means that occasionally I need flexible childcare and even though I strive to get a good balance of working around my children that is not always possible especially when deadlines are looming. Personally I have found that not having a defined place of work with define working times is both a privilege but can also be prob......

Street Food Cardiff - What we thought

Summer is now truly over as we embrace all that Autumn has to offer which we also means we wave goodbye to the 5 week long  Street Food Cardiff Festival or SFC for short at Sophia Gardens, like most we love seeing events like this being organised in Cardiff as it gives a platform to the food truck movement happening here like many other cities and allows for smaller independent food business to share their creations with hungry visitors in the Welsh Capital. This is not the first time we have been as it's somewhat of an annual event and my eldest loves going. We decided to head into town one Sunday and made an beeline for SFC as it had that laid-back atmosphere and social feel we wanted on a weekend, with good music and of course an array of food options. This year they also year had a small kids area with a few hay bales, badminton rackets, colourful bunting and of course the popular tuk tuk vehicles to sit on and eat your food. Also this is pretty much an all-weather ......

Why It's Easy To Fall In Love With Jewellery

My mother has some beautiful rings, ones I know she is planning to pass down to me, I remember being mesmerised by them when I was a child and even though the worth my not be massive they hold sentimentality as well as being very well made. They will become one of those things I know I will hold onto until I want to pass them onto one of my own children because the thing with jewellery is not only an exquisite form of art that can add emotional meaning to your life. It can also be wonderful for celebrating milestone events, weddings or birthdays with birthstone jewellery . In fact, for someone who appreciates the complicated craftsmanship of making handmade jewellery, to me it's really is kind of art form of which creators spend their whole life perfecting. I also love vintage pieces and it can be a real thrill of finding unusual pieces discovered by accident in unlikely places such as charity shops or car boot sales. If you love jewellery or simply have an interest in ......
