How to get the right work life balance as a remote worker

* This is a collaborative post I've been working from home as a self-employed freelance for a decade now and as many people who had the opportunity to work from home as a remote worker or swap to the freelancer life during lockdown had a taste of what it's like and its positive to see many have made this a more permanent switch. However, working from home isn't always plain sailing and while naturally it can feel chaotic to start with if you don't find a workable way forward it will start to affect your productivity, stress levels, creativity and even relationships.  Of course, there are major benefits to working from home like saving money on petrol as you no longer commute as well as saving you time, time which can be better spent elsewhere. Many workers also note they have great job satisfaction as well as offering a more flexible approach to those juggling roles outside of work such as parenting as remote workers can often be more present for their kids as well as t......

8 Practical Tips to Stay Productive Even in Lockdown

*This post contains affiliate links  The past year has been a pretty crazy ride and our new normal, well just isn't normal, yet. The Coronavirus pandemic has forced us into isolation and seclusion in our homes. It is quite jarring that we can’t go out for social functions, work or meet with friends and family without having to social distance or not at all when under lockdown. The quarantine period has forced many of us into boredom and loneliness. On the brighter side, the quarantine has provided enough time to bond with family, study, or work from home. Confinement without a routine is quite daunting and has affected how most people operate. Life in the pandemic has been a call for adaptation, we have had to learn how to make changes in our life while observing the health regulations but also keeping our mental wellbeing in mind.  Many of us have switched to working or studying from home which on the flip side does provide the opportunity for one to hone personal skills......

I've been a self-employed freelancer for a few years now and have been working from my small but adequate office space in my home for over 6yrs now so I feel well versed in the work from home lifestyle. There are certainly pros and cons to working from home but it offers a lot of freedom once you get into a good routine and I find it works really well for me. So I thought I would share a few tips I've learnt along the way and if your making the switch to working from home hopefully these will be useful. 1. Create a daily to-do list Having a structure to your workday is really important and having a clear idea of your daily objectives will really help you to stay focused and productive. Without having anyone physically there to supervise or oversee your work, motivation has to come from you so knowing your deadlines and prioritising the most important tasks is key. You can also break your ......

While the recession was not a pretty sight at all and many people were put under a lot of stress, some losing their livelihood, income and way of life in other respects society has certainly seen a rise in people starting their own businesses, being creative and pursuing their entrepreneurial pursuits. I'm self-employed and I work from home and predominately online and while I don't need an office per se it's nice to have a separate space in the home, where I can really focus on my work.  If you have an idea, the will and are willing to take a calculated risk now really is the time to capitalise on a new and original idea and with so many platforms such as etsy and Instagram to take your business to new heights it's really opened the door to small businesses.  If you have a physical product or service starting small is best and selling online can be a great start but at some point you many want to expand on that and open a real-life store which of cour......
