Thinking about taking up running? Here is everything you need to know

The one positive thing that seems to have come out of 2020 is many people are taking up a new hobby with a focus on getting active and improving fitness. We all know that getting outdoors has a real positive effect on both mental and physical wellbeing and walking or running is a great starting point as you need very little to get going and can be achieved by most people with a minimal budget. While I focus mainly on surfing, skating and hiking, I also do a little running and power walking to keep my general fitness level up so I thought I share the basics of everything you need to know should you be looking to get into running or jogging this year. The great thing about running is all you really need are trainers and a comfortable pair of trousers or shorts, a t-shirt and some good socks. Opting for breathable fabric is key though as your skin has to breathe as you run and you need additional support to increase your range of movement. But no matter your reasons for starting, ......

Street Style Sunday - New Shoes

So I recently treated myself to this colourful floral printed trainers from Boden, they are just a bit of fun and add a pop of colour to my wardrobe. They are actually from the teenage section of Boden but  I thought why not, if you can't have fun with fashion then what can you have fun with, especially coming into the colder months it's nice to still keep a touch of summer in my outfits. I also managed to pick these up for a steal but using a VouchaCodes  which meant I got money off and free delivery, serious win if you ask me. I have paired them up with my Fred Perry Pinafore and a tee from Next for a simply and practical look as this past week has been a really busy one. So far this Autumn has been mild so I have been making the most of still being able to wear dungarees and dresses on a daily basis before it simply becomes too cold and the tights have to come out. The one great thing about seasons changing is that it's the perfect time to re-evaluat......

Street Style Sunday - Family style

So we have had a really fun action packed week, making the most of the sunny days and on the rainy ones we have been trying to sort out all of Mr A & Baby G's clothes for what is officially summer, as well as my own. As they are both growing so fast we decided to pop down to McArthur Glen  in Bridgend (which I will tell you more about soon) to pick up a few goodies for the family and see what Vans had in store for kids as Mr A thinks Vans and skateboarding is possibly the coolest thing ever and who am I to say anything different. Mr A in a cute Paul Smith tee from Melijoe  We have also been embracing shorts the past few weeks as well as the fact Mr A has gone up another shoe size - he has suddenly had a bit of a growth spirt and his Blue Canvas Nike trainers we got from Brantano two months ago finally fit, they are having a huge sale at the moment so it's really worth checking out as these were down from £32 to £16 Mr A wears - Paul Smith T-shirt, Gap k......

Street Style Sunday - Finding Normality

Wearing - Brookhaven leggings, H&M Mama tee, M&S jacket, Carlos bag, Nike trainers So around three weeks ago I gave birth to a cute little man which has meant some body changes have followed of course. I am slowly getting back into my pre-pregnancy clothes and although I am not quite there I am at least on course. I have been mixing up maternity and normal clothes together especially as I am breast-feeding and need loose tops to wear. I have been enjoying these soft Brookhaven leggings and treating my feet to these super comfortable Nike trainers. All I know is I cannot wait to go shopping and pick up a few new bits and bobs.  I am also really looking forward to spring and summer and warmer temperatures and I feel like this year is going to be all about Breton tops and sunglasses. Until then I am just enjoying being able to get back into my jackets and chambray shirts. Enjoying being back in my pre-pregnancy clothes  Also don't forget to ......

Looks we are loving

Just a short little Style Love post about the looks we are loving as the colder seasons creep in, it's such a wonderful time of the year for chunky knits, scarfs and layering... For me it's all about the shoes, I still want to be practical but I love brogues so want to try and wear them throughout most of the season. Also really liking the interesting trainer shades out at the moment, so fun and practical. The slightly older and more mature man really has it going on, I feel that men really came into there own when they are mid twenties up. John loved Red Wing shoes and they are perfect for Autumn and winter weather, as well as a good blazer and simple style. ...

Boys Club - wild haired child

My wild haired child With being so busy lately with the MADS blog awards in London, two birthdays and various other things, we missed a week of Boys Club - Johns and Mr A's posts about what they are up to, wearing and loving at the moment, we were more than overdue an instalment. A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to attend the White Company opening in Cardiff (I did a review here) and we both really loved the children's wear and picked up two pieces for Mr A for his birthday and this was the first time he was out and about with his little Bulldog jumper. White Company is a bit pricey, although because we signed up to the mailing list we got 20% off making our two purchases more reasonable and since it was for a special occasion such as a birthday it's lovely to have such a beautifully made garment ready for the autumn season. Mr A wearing a White Company Jumper, M&S trousers and Clarks shoes Mr A photobombing John This week John is wearing so......

Flying feet, my new running shoes

I was lucky enough to be asked to do a review of running shoes from sportshoes.com and having done sport my whole life and now having a little one to run around after it's great to find that little bit of time to myself to keep fit, especially in the New Year. I can't remember the last time I have a new pair of gym/running shoes, my last pair are a good few years old and I was in a real need of an upgrade. I decided to try the Nike Lady Free Advantage 3.0 and my order was delivered super quick and the shoes fitted perfectly. They are literally the lightest sport shoes I have ever had and have been designed with female athletes in mind and use the new barefoot technology to design ultra-light shoes with super-flexiable support, breathability and multi-surface traction. In all the years I trained for sport (I represented South Africa in Judo) I have never had such comfortable and responsive trainers, I really feel like I have been missing something. They have ......
