What I've learnt being a cat owner about understanding Your Cat's Instincts

Since sharing my home with a cat for the past few years, I am not a total cat convert, they are fantastic companions, full of character and I feel I'm constantly learning more about them and their silly and interesting ways.  Yet like many, I'm often left wondering why cats scratch, especially when I am on top of regular flea treatment. This age-old question might be on your mind if you own one of these amazing creatures. Cats come with plenty of entertaining quirks, but many owners struggle to manage their scratching instincts. After a lot of research and trial and error, I thought I would help unpick this innate behaviour to help you understand and support your cat’s desire to scratch – without causing too much damage to your home along the way! Why do cats scratch ? Cats scratch as an instinctive behaviour for several reasons. These include: 1. Grooming and maintenance, keeping the claws sharp 2. Stress relief, with the action itself releasing dopamine 3. Scent marking, whic......

Gus and Bella Box Review

*Thanks to Gus and Bella who offered a one-off box in exchange for an honest review I thought it was about time I'd introduce the newest member of my family properly, Yo-yo the cat (not my name choice by there we go), who joined us in Febuary, unintentionally just before lockdown. The last time I was a cat owner was in South Africa many years ago, when I temporarily fostered a cat for a few months and prior to that was when I was a child and we had a beloved cat for 17yrs, he was a true member of the family in every sense of the word so I was excited to see how Yo-you would fit in. Well needless to say the boys adore her and take great care into looking after her wellbeing. We want to make sure we are providing her with the right nutrition and space to play and grow. Luckily we have a nice outdoor space which backs onto a river with lots of trees behind so she has been having lots of fun exploring. Finding food she likes has been a bit hit and miss, there are so many brands out the......

Quick and Easy Halloween makeup

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. Oh how I do love Halloween, it's such a fun holiday in which one can dress up, be creative an enjoy the simple things like carving pumpkins and bobbing for apples. Mr A loved it last year when his nanny put on a pink wig and this year I thought I would put together a really simple Halloween makeup vlog using some Rimmel goodies I picked up at Boots . Having a little one at home meant that I opted for a family friendly look and as Mr A loves Cats it seemed like the perfect choice. I have put together a fun little blog that will hopefully inspire you to get creative and in the Halloween mood - plus this cat face is super quick and easy so no excuses really. The products I picked up to create the look are pretty much everyday pieces and I am really impressed with the quality and price point that Rimmel offers. Here is what I used Match Perfection Ultr......

What We are reading

So this week we are enjoying the tale of a very groovy cat called Pete - such a lovely story about cat who wears shoes and what happens to him on his adventure, it's also has a great little life moral at the end and very cute and quirky illustrations has made it a popular choice in our house. The little man enjoyed the book as much as I did reading it and it's perfect for toddlers and young children. We received this book as part of the Room to Grow Book Share scheme were you get sent a book for 14 days and then post back, it's shared with another family and then you wait for your next book - very exciting and a really innovative scheme which is perfect for families especially when less children seem to be enjoying books these days. Luckily Mr A loves book and it's the perfect quite time activity and is also something he looks forward to at the end of the day. We can't wait to see what our next book from the scheme is. ...
