Cooking has been something I have really enjoyed even since before having children, I find spending time in the kitchen making fresh and healthy food really relaxing. I have always been keen on using natural whole foods and each week I have a small local organic salad box dropped off. Despite this I have a very tight weekly budget for a family of four of around £60 which includes my salad box, toiletries and all our meals which I cook from scratch most nights as well as bake treats for the boys when I can. I tend to keep up with trends although I refuse to believe I need to pay an excessive amounts on the next "superfood" to keep healthy. Also I have a real belief that despite a lot of foods being packaged as healthy they are not always ethical choices which is something I am very interested in, trying to leave as little negative trace on this earth. Fun at the Woodland Fair
Last weekend we headed over to Sophia Gardens in Cardiff for the one day woodland fair which was a free event put on by the council and with the weather mainly dry we could't wait to see what was in store. The event was the perfect size, no too much going on but what was on offer was great for kids, from circus skills to making crafts, watching tree surgeons at work to discovering plant fossils in rocks, something Mr A loved in particular as it came kids free range to hammer away at rock more than 1 million years old. There we also some owls and birds of prey on display and the trainer was kind enough to let Mr A stroke a Tawny Owl. There was also a dog show with a variety of different breeds, as well as local craft and food stalls and we picked up a jar of local honey. After about 2 hours we decided to take a walk around Bute park and pick up a bite to eat at the Summer house, I had a lovely roasted veg and hummus panini while Mr A found some pretty flower......

Bringing nature into the home
Love this, brings so much colour into the room ( image ) It's proven that time spent outdoors is good for both your physical and mental wellbeing and it's something that as a family we truly believe in. Having grown up in South Africa I can honestly say I spent most of my time outside, preferably from dawn to dusk, running around, swimming in the pool, eating outside, socialising with friends and living in a warm country allows you to do that. Right from the beginning I have actively tried to pass down my passion for the outdoors to my son, who now loves nothing more than gardening, cycling or going on some kind of outdoor adventure. During the summer we thrive at this and during the winter we still enjoy outdoor time everyday come rain or shine (investing in Swedish waterproofing clothing is a must) but it's more of an endurance during the colder months.
