Exploring Wroxeter Roman City

As a family, we love to explore all the fantastic ruins, castles and historical sites that are abundant in the UK. My youngest is especially fascinated with Romans as the moment so when we realised there were Roman Ruins only about 25mins away from where we were staying on our recent trip to Ironbridge we knew we had to visit. Wroxeter Roman City was once the fourth largest city in Roman Britain and has an impressive array of ruins, artefacts and objects to view as you first enter a small indoor museum which helps explain more about Wroxeter and what daily Roman life would have looked like and helps give context to Wroxeters past. You then wander outdoors around the bathhouse ruins, which was much bigger than I imagined. The grounds are also home to the iconic Old Work which is a 7-meter high basilica wall and the largest piece of the free-standing Roman wall in the country and nearly 2000yrs old at that! Old Work - the largest freestanding Roman Wall in the UK W......

Visiting Guernsey with Condor Ferries

*AD Press Trip I have wanted to get to the Channel Islands for years, it's somewhere that has always intrigued me and has been sitting on my bucket list for a while so when the opportunity arose with Condor Ferries to visit Guernsey we jumped at the chance. Guernsey, smaller than Jersey and being just 25sq miles packs a punch and is filled with opportunities to explore and have adventures. I am going to be doing a list of things to do with kids on the island in a separate post, while in this post I want to focus more on the overall experience and getting to the island. There are two main ways to get to the channel islands are either flying or by Condor Ferries who offer a variety of options when it comes to channel crossings and can take you to Guernsey, Jersey and St Malo in France, leaving from Portsmouth or Poole. You can opt for the high-speed trimaran or the slower Clipper service which also offers overnight sailings. We decided to use the high-speed Liberation from......

Springtime Adventures

We have been so busy over the past two months with so many adventures near and far from camping to surfing and everything in between, so I thought I would share my highlights and snippets of the best bits of Spring. We have really been embracing the warmer climate that this season brings, however, Wales does rain a lot so every dry day we have had we've made the most of them. You can also see more on my  Instagram feed  and stories as I have loads more planned as we head into summer. 1. Taking in the views on a hike in the Welsh Valleys from my weekend exploring the area with other bloggers as part of a South Wales Valleys Press Trip 2. My boys enjoying the view from the Trig Point on the summit of Garth Mountain, South Wales 3. Really enjoying getting back in the water and on my surfboard at the beautiful blue flag beach that is Rest Bay in South Wales. 4. My eldest couldn't help by lie down in all the Cherry blossoms in Cardiff. 5. The boys and I had an incredi......

Family Adventures of Late

Wow what a busy first three months of year! We have certainly managed to pack a whole lot of adventures in both close to home and further afield. Despite its being fairly cold, life has been very colourful and action packed and we have made the most of every single dry day we have been given (as well as preserving in the cold and wet too). Here are a few highlights from the past few weeks. 1. We tried out a new cafe in Llandaff North called Coffee Rex , they make excellent Italian coffee as well as these delicious Waffles 2. Cotton Twist were kind enough to send some party bag fillers for my son's birthday, we had fun making the superman masks. * Review * 3. We spent time at one of our favourite places in South Wales - St Fagans Outdoor Museum . A unique family friendly museum that takes you through the history of life in Wales. 4. If you follow me on social media you may know that I recently spent a weekend exploring Manchester with Hotel Indigo, do check out my blog p......

The Gratitude List

Oh life can be complicated and manic at times, it can throw you curve balls that knock you off the path you are walking but these curve balls can also offer great perspective amongst the chaos of running after two children, working and keeping a house in fairly decent shape. Over the weekend I lost someone very important to me and instantly the small things that were bothering you fall away and you question why you were even stressing over them in the first place. It's also made me feel incredibly grateful for the full life I have, the children who certainly keep me on my toes but give me a real sense of purpose and how despite the daily grind have it far better than so many and I reminded myself of this often. So I wanted to share the small things I have been grateful for this month as gratitude is something that constantly has to be renewed. 1. An early morning coffee to myself - I woke up early one day last week and manage a couple of hours child free. At the moment it......

Inspiring Mini Explorers through Family Travel

Before having children both John and I had done a fair amount of travel, together we had tallied up 26 different countries and we both knew that when we became parents our passion for travel was something we wanted to pass on to our kids. Together we have had many a road trip, negotiated busy airports, taken long distance trains and overcome seasickness in the Atlantic and we have learnt a fair few things along the way. As much as we love exploring cities and we really do they can at times be a bit overwhelming and manic, especially when you have small children in tow so right now with the type of family dynamic we have our favourite destinations are those off the beaten path, more isolated, surrounded by nature offering a space to decompress and slow down. As the world becomes increasingly technology driven it has become a real priority to us as a family to make sure we don't lose sight of the simple pleasures in life such as climbing trees, collecting shells on the b......
