The Freshest apple

We have been slowly making our way through the National Trust 50 things to do before your 11 3/4 and are at about the half way mark. We don't really plan when we are going to tick something off this adventure inspired challenge so it's always really fun when something happens naturally like when we were at St Fagans a few weeks ago and walked through the small apple and pear orchard. Mr A loves apples and spotted some low hanging ones and before I knew it he had picked one and taken a big bite, which meant we can ticket off challenge No.9 - Eat an apple straight from a tree" We grow what we can in our small vegetable patch at home and it's always wonderful to see the journey of where our food comes from first hand, even with something simple like picking an apple from a tree. We are hoping to tick of a few more challenges this autumn such as playing conkers and setting up a snail race. These slower quieter days are the ones we treasure the most and even ......

As sweet as apples

I hope everyone had a great Bank Holiday weekend. We returned from our Brussels City Break to a very empty fridge but as I was lucky enough to be chosen to take part in the #MorrisonsMum campaign it was a great way to do a big shop at the super market and spend the end of the Bank Holiday baking up a lovely treat. I managed to pick up a whole bag of lovely apples from Morrisons for 99p as well as some wholewheat flour, raisins and chopped hazelnuts so the little man and I thought we would throw something together that was fun and tasty, such as a chunky apple cake. The little man helping out in the kitchen The recipe is pretty toddler friendly as you can throw the ingredients together without worrying to much about doing everything in exact order. It's also pretty healthy and made with wholewheat flour and can easily be adapted to a vegan diet (have suggested alternative ingredients) and lovely for a picnic or after supper treat with custard.
