Remembering Budapest

Budapest was a city I had been wanting to visit for a long time, after reading Bram Stokers Dracula it seemed like even more of a mysterious place that was divided by the Daunbe river and was the gateway to the Capanthian mountains. I left Zagreb in Croatia one early morning and took a very slow train right across Hungary, it took about 12 hours an no one spoke english. The train was beautiful, all deep wood planning and green veldt style seats, I don't think it had been modernised since the 1940's and was an antique in action. I remember that train journey being a real time for reflection and I loved seeing the vast countryside fly past my window, that was until it powered into Budapest and all the life and culture came flooding into view. I was in Budapest for friday the 13th, so maybe that explained the super cold weather, I had to run from one store to another until I found long john thermals as my legs felt like they were going to break off in the cold. Getting that European Style
