So now that Christmas and New Years are over and we are all looking forward to what 2018 holds one of the first things on the calendar is Valentine's day. Now I know many feel its an over commercialised event but I see nothing wrong in celebrating Love and showing the ones who are important to you how much you care. I usually don't even buy anything but rather the boys and I make homemade cards and carrot cake and perhaps a bottle of wine. But as the boys are getting a little older this year I'd love to go away somewhere perhaps just as a couple (or even as a family) and why not use it as an excuse to travel somewhere new or revisit a favourite spot. Here are some ideas as to where you should go to make Valentine’s Day 2018 the best one ever both closer to home and further afield.
The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds are a great place to go to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the UK. You can rent a Cotswold cottage in a peaceful village, turn off your phones, and just enjoy spending some uninterrupted quality time together. If you decide to venture out, then you’ll find there are so many things to do and you can explore small towns and villages, visit ancient Roman ruins, walk along quiet trails through the woods, go for afternoon tea or have a picnic in a beautiful meadow.
St Michaels Mount, Cornwall
I've always been fascinated by islands and was really excited to explore St Michaels Mount in Cornwall just over a year ago. It really is a magical place and perfect for a romantic couples or family break away at any time of the year. We stayed in the gorgeous Godolphin Arms which is located right opposite the mount and has the most breathtaking views. Do read my review about this hotel as it really is something a little special.
Paris, France
Paris, France
Well like they say Paris is always a good idea and I certainly agree with that statement. Yes it is cold this time of the year but you can't help but feel whisked away by the romantic setting and feel of this beautiful city. This is also a great city for kids with plenty to see and do, we really enjoyed spending my 30th in Paris, having lunch on the West Bank and staying at a wonderfully central Airbnb apartment.
Relax in a Blue Lagoon in Iceland
There are plenty of romantic activities in Iceland to make your valentine’s day truly memorable. The Blue Lagoon Thermal Spa is a great place to go together. The spa is in between the airport and the capital city of Reykjavík, so it is easy to include in your itinerary. It is a great place to relax and you can get massages, visit the swim up bar or just enjoy each other’s company in this stunning thermally heated spa.

Drive a Classic Car through Cuba
Cuba is a stunning country and somewhere both John and I really want to visit as it's so historically and culturally rich. It's also the land of vintage cars so our dream would be to rent a classic car and tour around Cuba in it. We do love a good road trip so renting a car will allow you to explore Cuba at your own pace and take everything in. You can figure out your own itinerary or get advice from a company specialising in Cuba travel which offers some great suggestions for those looking to do the same.

I'm torn between the Blue Lagoon in Iceland or Paris!!!! I've always fancied a trip to Iceland and have never been, but Paris is the city of love so this would be perfect for Valentine's day!
ReplyDeleteI know! Both would be perfect! I feel the same
