Yes it may have snowed a lot this week in the UK but that aside Spring really is on it's way and will be here sooner than you think so being able to enjoy your garden, courtyard, small terrace or balcony as much as you can in the warmer months means that you need to take the time to properly prepare it for all of the activities that you want to do. Properly preparing your outdoor space does not have to be difficult to do, you may way to keep things as low maintenance as possible or perhaps you have bigger plans of growing your own veg, either way now is the time to start preparing for that. The following guide provides you with a few simple tips you can use to make preparing your outdoor space for the spring and summer months.

Make Your Garden Healthy and Strong

The first thing you need to do is make your lawn as healthy and strong as it can be. Take the time to spread grass seed on the areas of the yard that are sparse or bare, now is the time to put these down so that your lawn looks nice and full as soon as it starts to get warmer. Water the seed regularly so that it can sprout and grow into healthy blades of grass. It will take time for the seeds to sprout so be patient. You will also want to remove any weeds you have from flower beds and turn the soil ready for planting.

Create a Comfortable Place to Relax

When enjoying activities outdoors, you need to be able to have a place to sit down and relax when needed. It is best to have outdoor furniture for everyone to sit on when they are playing outside. Be sure that any furniture that is made of metal has cushions on it so that the metal does not hurt anyone when they sit on it. Metal will heat up in the sun and could hurt someone when they sit on it, depending on how hot the metal gets. It is best to choose an outdoor furniture set that has an umbrella that can be put up to create shade when needed.

Fun for the Family to Enjoy

It is best to have fun things for your family to do while they are outside. Having a playset or sandbox installed provides kids with great places to play outdoors. You could hang a tire swing over the branch of a large tree to create a fun place for kids and adults to swing on warm days. A swimming pool also serves as a great addition to the backyard. There are pools available that are very affordable and do not require professional installation to use them. This can be a great option for a family on a budget.

Space to Entertain

The one great thing about having some kind of outdoor space is being able to socialise and enjoy it with friends and family, no matter how big or small it is. In the UK sunny days and warm evenings are pretty few and far between so you wan to make the most of them. If you are short on space some fold up and easy to store away chairs are always a good investment, I have a lot more tips on a blog post dedicated to entertaining al fresco, do check it out

Taking the time to properly prepare for the warmer weather will ensure that you are able to make the most of the yard that is available to you. You and your family will be able to make memories and enjoy one another’s company throughout the day and into the night. During the night, you and your kids can catch lightning bugs or play flashlight tag to ensure that you are able to enjoy the garden to the fullest.
