London is a truly fantastic city and I place we love to visit as a family as there is so much to see and do and is overflowing with culture and history. It has earned its status as the most visited city in the world and there is good reason for that, drawing visitors from across the globe who come to see the wide array of sights and other attractions the city has to offer. However, like many other capital cities, visiting London isn’t exactly cheap. In fact, the city has another well deserved reputation among the rest of the United kingdom owing to the abnormally high cost of living.

That’s not to say that a visit to London necessarily has to break the bank, especially being a family we are all about frugal travel. If you know what you are doing, then it is possible to experience the city for a fraction of what it costs those who visit unprepared. The London Explorer Pass is one of the most effective ways of doing this. The pass grants the holder access to up to 7 of 20 different attractions spread throughout the city and can help you to save money on your visit in a number of ways.

Save Money on Entrance to Attractions

I am all about saving on attractions and we have use city passes before in other cities such as Amsterdam and Helsinki so knew London would offer one. The London Explorer Pass comes in three variants which allow free entry to 3, 5, or 7 attractions throughout the city. The cost of the pass means that you can save as much as 35% on the cost of entrance to some of London’s most popular tourist attractions.

The Big Bus Hop-On Hop-Off Tour is a bus tour around London which shows visitors some of the most significant sites throughout the city. As the name implies, you are free to hop on and off the tour as it progresses, meaning that you can gradually travel around the city while stopping to visit other attractions along the way. The tour usually costs £35 which makes it one of the biggest savings you can make with your London Explorer Pass.

Few attractions in London are as iconic as The London Dungeon but with its entry fee of £30, it is also one of the more expensive ways to spend a day. The Explorer Pass grants you free access to this unique slice of London. The Dungeons offer visitors a theatrical tour through the last millennium of the city’s history.

Madame Tussauds is renowned around the world for the incredibly lifelike wax sculptures of celebrities and other significant figures that occupy its corridors. Among the collection are significant figures from the last several decades, placing classic figures such as Audrey Hepburn and Muhammad Ali alongside contemporary faces such as Beyoncé and Adele.

Deals Throughout the City

A smartphone app is now available through which users can both purchase their London Explorer Pass and also gain access to some exclusive deals at a variety of restaurants and other locations throughout the city. Using the app, users can also gain discounts on theatre tickets and on other entertainment and cultural events.

Plan Efficiently

If you opt to receive a physical copy of your pass, then it will come with a map and tube timetable which are designed to make getting around the city as straightforward as possible. Having a map is really useful as time saving if you plan on walking around Zone 1 (which I highly recommend as it's a great way to see the city).  If you choose the app, on the other hand, you will gain access to an interactive map, powered by Google, which can be used even when an internet connection is unavailable.

The London Explorer Pass is an excellent way to open the city up for both new visitors and for those who are looking to tick off the last few sights and experiences on their checklist. The Pass dramatically reduces the cost of exploring London and has been hugely successful in attracting a more diverse range of people to a number of the city’s top attractions. When we plan trips to the UK Capital we always research before hand for the best deals to keep costs down, It's so easy to do and really should be part of any trip to a main city.
