Bed and Breakfast in Newbury

05/03/2016

Last month we went on a mini adventure to North London to check out the amazing George House and as the trip was going to take nearly 3hrs we decided to split it up with an overnight stay in Newbury on the way up, this way we could enjoyed a relaxed breakfast and a brisk walk around Newbury town, a place we had not yet been.

As it was only a quick little stopover we opted for a family room in the Newbury London Rd Travelodge, this is one of the more modern Travelodges with kingsized beds and a simple clean interior. The staff on reception were really friendly and had made sure that a baby cot was in our room on arrival. This hotel only has a small reception area and no restaurant or breakfast room which really didn't make any difference for us as we planned to have walk around the town first thing in the morning.

We also had a separate single bed set up in our bedroom and I have to say it was very spacious - far more so than had we stayed in central London. There was also a small seating area with a desk and coffee making facilities and you get the first 30mins are wifi and then it's only £3 for 24hrs and we couldn't fault the connection, it was fast and efficient. The location was perfect as it's situated at the top end of the town and is only a few minutes from the bustling high street.

We decided to head to Bills in the morning as we knew there would be something to suit all our needs. We headed down towards the river and through the older part of the town with it's historical buildings and shop fronts, the sunshine was out and so where some swans on the water and was a lovely way to start the day even if it was very cold.

Bills Newbury

We were actually the first people in Bills that morning and Mr A quickly found a cosy little nook for us to sit in and he was totally taken with the interior. Mr A had been looking forward to the blueberry pancakes and I opted for the delicious honey and walnut porridge while Baby G had scrambled egg and John the full works.

Coffee time

After breakfast we had a walk through the street market before heading back to the hotel and checking out, which was a quick and easy process, in fact the only real negative is there is no carpark on site but there is one situated about a 3 minute walk away at a reasonable price. This is certainly a part of the UK we would like to explore more as we only scratched the surface of the historical town of Newbury

  2. Travelodge rooms are brilliant these days and great value for money too. I love Bills as well, the Cardiff branch is a favourite of mine.
