Our Amsterdam Adventure Part 2

04/12/2014

So as some of you may already know last month we flew off on a little weekend adventure from our local Airport, Cardiff with KLM to the Dutch Capital of Amsterdam. It was great being back in a city I had been privileged enough to have lived in for a few months before having Mr A. We were really lucky with the weather and the whole weekend was dry, sunny and warm which meant we got to walk around the city and enjoy places like Jordaan, the flower market, the Buddhist temple on the outskirts of the red-light district and all the beautiful canals in the city centre.

One of the things we want to do as a family was a little cruise on the canals but after walking past some peddle boats the little man was immediately taken by them and was desperate for us to hire one, which we did and well what a hairy thing to do - those canals are so busy with boats of various sizes but once we got a hang of the peddle boat and found a few quite waterways we really had a lot of fun and would recommended it as it's such an amazing way to see the city.

We also indulged in the Cafe culture which is vibrant and very family friendly, there was a lovely little cafe with fresh fruit smoothies and loose leafs teas we found on one of the 9 streets. We also visited one of the places I used to frequent when I lived in the city - the retro and vintage fitted Latei which is opposite the Buddhist temple on the outskirts of the red light district and is famed for it's amazing Apple Cake as well as fresh fruit juices and homemade treats.

  5. Ah-may-zing photos. And I'm so jealous that you live in an area of the world where it's so easy to fly off to places with such rich history.

  6. It's so nice to hear (well, read) that Amsterdam is a family friendly city. Usually you think the extreme opposite, thinking of the red light district, and the legal drugs. So it's good to see a different side to the city. Love the pics! Not sure about the paddle boat but would give at least one try :)

  8. I love seeing places by waterway. It just gives you a completely different perspective on a place. I'll definitely do this when we take our "someday" trip to Amsterdam. Lovely photos - as usual!

  11. I love your little video - Mr. A has the cheekiest little grin EVER, what a cutie! Your travel posts are definitely my favourite - you make me want to pack my bags and go to all the places you've been (after we've got our passports, that is!)
