Winter warmers and wine

17/11/2014

Wow I seriously cannot believe we are half way through November already - where has this year gone!! Winter is on our doorstep as is Christmas and we are really starting to get into the spirit of things. I have started to put together little lists of things I want and need for the house that bring in a little bit of warmth during the colder months. I am really feeling knits and crocheted accessories and decorations plus lots of nature inspired decor...here are a few things I am loving on Esty at the moment

christmas decorations

1. Handmade Cup Cosy in Blue £11.73
2. Red Berry Winter Wreath £44.25
3. Set of six handmade pinecone decorations £21
4. Set of two fox hanging decorations £12

What also always springs to mind at this time of year is a little hot toddy or some mulled wine - of course being pregnant I cannot partake in this yearly tradition but it won't stop me making some John and my mother as well as creating an alcohol free version. At the end of summer we were sent a lovely wicker picnic hamper filled with Lindemans wine, the white was the first to go as it makes perfect summer spritzers and what is left is the deep reds waiting to be transformed into a warming winter drink.

So I thought I would share a super simple mulled wine recipe as it's really easier than you think and nothing sums up Christmas more than this lovely winter warmer. This one is really basic - of course you can get more in-depth versions but for a first time this lovely mix of spices really works well and the Lindemans red wine worked really well as a base for this (John has already had a cheeky tipple)

Super simple Mulled Wine

1 bottle of Red Wine
1 Orange sliced and deseeded
2 cups water
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar

1. Combine the orange, water, spices and sugar in a large pot
2. Slowly bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5min
3. Add the wine and slowly reheat but do not boil for 10 min
4. Serve warm in mugs - simple

  1. Co. zi. ness. *_____________* That first picture is killing me.

I've actually never had mulled wine, is that weird? I actually think I could like it. Maybe. I'm more of a white wine person (and Chardonnay at that. I don't know anything about wine, but I nearly always like a Chardonnay, and nearly always dislike every other wine I've tried).
