It feels like every day of adult life requires us to be organised, juggling all aspects of our day to ensure that everything gets done and nothing is left forgotten. While it can sometimes feel like an uphill struggle at the best of times, things can get even more hectic in the run up to Christmas, especially where the kids are concerned. Christmas concerts, parent’s evenings, Christmas parties and weekend treats are just some of the things that we need to add to our overflowing diaries and that’s without even thinking about the shopping! The sooner we think about that the better and while many people may put off until tomorrow what they could be doing today, it’s better to be as organised as possible so that we can limit the stress suffered.

Organisation is key if you want the festive period to go by without a hitch and here are a few snippets of advice that may help you survive the lead-up to the big day.

Start buying presents early

If you’re in charge of the majority of the present buying, the sooner you start, the easier it’ll be. Make a list of ideas that you plan to buy and the budget that you need to stick to. Buy a few bits each month and cross them off your list as you get them. Perhaps you plan to buy a baby gym for your new niece of nephew, or your little boy’s Imaginext goodies – whatever is on your list, start now.

Wrap as you go

Rather than being met with a pile of presents a fortnight before Christmas, wrap as you go. Don’t forget to label the gifts and once they’re ready, you can pop them in the cupboard/in your car boot/in the loft until Christmas Eve.

Shop online

Avoid the high street altogether and buy online. Shop around for the cheapest prices and take into account any delivery costs. The gifts will be delivered to your door ready for wrapping. Order your Christmas food online too – M&S offer a fantastic food and wine ordering service that will leave your guests drooling.

Use a Calendar

It can be easy to lose track of all the plans that you and the family have, both together and independently, as Christmas approaches. Use a calendar that can be viewed any time to help you incorporate everything into your days.

Ask for help

If you need your husband or your kids to give you hand, ask them. Don’t feel like you are the only person who can be responsible enough to get everything done, the right way!

Most of all, try and stay calm. There’s nothing worse than stress and if you start panicking, it’ll only make things worse!
