Back to the Farm

natural childhood

So some of you may know that we have had a few car issues of late and have been without a car for about 2 months now, which we have no problem with except that we cannot get to some of our favourite places, St Fagans being one, so when I was leant a car for the day we couldn't wait to make our way there and it really made no difference it was raining.

We really put Mr A's regatta puddle suit through it's paces and I have to say even with the intermitten downpours it kept him nice and dry, alongside his waterproof gloves and wellies, I think as long as your well prepared rain really shouldn't stop you from enjoying the outdoors, well it doesn't stop us anyway.

First thing we did was check the small apple and pear orchard as the last time we were here the trees were filled with fruit and I always encourage the little man to have an understanding of where his food come's from. The trees are now bare, with the odd apple and pear high up and out of reach, but to our luck a lovely large pear fell to the ground and with delight Mr A picked it up and held onto it tight for the rest of the day.

Despite being Autumn there was still a lot of babies been born on the farm with a new litter of newborn pigs and a little black calf that had been born in mid-October by c-section and had to be hand reared due to the mother not being able to make enough milk. Mr A was particularly interested in him and was  very concerned as to why Mommy Cow could not make enough mommy milk. The turkeys and ducks are also always around as well as some fully grown pigs in the field looking for food with their noses in the mud.

I think the reason why we love places like St Fagans so much is because it's simple, lots of outdoors space, forest areas, vegetable gardens, a farm area and a small bakery and lots of mud and puddles to jump in and we always feel refreshed after a few hours just walking around and enjoying what nature has to offer.

  1. Oh Laura that looks just like our farm this week. No matter how hard we try when the rain comes so does the mud, especially round the pig field! Looks like you made a lovely day out at the farm despite the weather and you have reminded me to go and collect the last of the apples from our orchard too! Thank you for sharing your lovely photos on Country Kids.

    1. Hi Fiona

Thanks so much, would love to have an apple orchard of our own but it's great to have access to one. Mud is fantastic, we loved stomping in it in our wellies :)
