Catwalk Cardiff vintage love

02/03/2012

On thursday John and I attended the annual Catwalk for a cause, which as the name suggest is a Fashion show in aid of Charity - the charity being Marie Curie Cancer Care. It was put on by the Grosvenor Casino in Cardiff Bay with the help of the Cardiff University Fashion Society students. As we had never been to the casino before we didn't know what to expect but the venue was very sleek and John said for a moment he felt like he was back in vegas. We had a drink at the stylish bar before the we took our seats for the show, it was quite a small room but nearly all the seats where filled and there was a really great atmosphere. The theme of the show was High Street Vs Vintage with some local vintage boutiques lending their best as well as high Street brands such as Coast, New Look and Next to name a few getting involved for the good cause.

On the seats where little goodie bags filled with some Neal Yard delights which I cannot wait to try, it always really wonderful to see brands getting involved and contributing towards events such as this one.

The show got off to a great start with some amazing outfits and I loved the layout of one model walking vintage, then the next high street and then together and so forth, there were a few technical problems with the sound skipping and at one point stopping altogether but I don't think that put anyone off and the models handled it really well, carrying on and they soon sorted the issue out and I don't think it effected the overall success of the day. I have to say we where very impressed with the styling of the models from the Cardiff Fashion students and there where so many pieces I would love to own (so will be visiting all those vintage shops soon). One of the highlights for both John and I was the Vintage Hair styles and make-up done by the SAKS academy, it must of taken them hours, the models really looked like they where from the 1950's, it was quite amazing, I really want to grow my hair long now just so I can sport one of the vintage do's. During the short break the audience was entertained by the very talented Chloe Swaby, I have to say when the said there was going to be a singer I got quite nervous because about 3 years ago I attended a catwalk show during London Fashion Week and they had a singer and she was awful, it was embarrassing, but I am very happy to say that was not the case with Chloe who has supported Tinchy Stryder and Kate Nash.

Here are some of my favourite looks from the show...

After the show we went to the gallery restaurant for a meal, which was really nice for us since we are both quite busy we don't always have time to sit down and eat with each other in the evening. Both John and I have the wild mushroom bruschetta starter which really hit the mark (I heart mushrooms). For the main I went for the healthy option and opted for the chicken salad and John had the steak with hand-cut chips and cherry tomatoes on the vine, he asked for medium but it was slightly overcooked but it was still very tasty and nothing was left on the plate.

The only negative I have about the whole night and this is only because I think customer service goes a very long way in the experience customers have and therefore is a very important tool for any business and should never be overlooked, anyway getting back to the one downer of the night....on our restaurant table were wine glasses so we expected that meant we could order drinks but when the hostess/waitress came to take our food order I asked if we could order some bubbly and she told me I needed to go to the bar to do this, which meant leaving John for over 10 minutes alone in the restaurant, on what should just be a relaxed and fun evening out, not worrying about such things, but my complaint comes from while I was at the bar the same waitress came to collect drinks orders for the larger table next to ours! It made me feel like she couldn't be bothered to take the order for two people and I missed out on some valuable one to one time with John, but that's just me, we still really enjoyed the evening and the food was very good. We will be back next year.
